probably would have at least tied Miller. McElroy put together a flawless run on the second night, but fell just one point short of Miller in his final score. Miller continues to lead the series by I I points over McElroy, with just two more stops left on the tour. Third place in the points belongs to Hessian Aggressian's Nate Adams, who also had his fair share of ups and downs in Providence. In Friday night's qualifying, Adams only made two jumps before pulling out and stopping by to tell announcer Robbie Floyd that "something [didn't] feel right with the bike." Minutes later, Nate's father/mechanic, Tandy Adams, discovered a broken steering-stem bolt. "I loosened up the stem bolt on the triple clamps, and the whole front end fell to the floor," Tandy said. "I'm just glad Nate pulled off when he did." Local pro motocrosser Pat Barton was on hand to check out the action and was able to supply Adams with a stem for the following night. Though Adams fell to a distant third place in the points race following his DNF, he rebounded on Saturday with a top-notch run to finish third behind Miller and McElroy, just as they sit in the points standings. Last year's IFMA Champion, RDW Graphics' Jake Windham, along with LBZ's Robert Distler, were the kings of consistency, both scoring fourth- and fifth-place finishes on the weekend. Windham is the only rider besides Jones and Adams performing the kiss of death, and that definitely contributed to his 89.5 and 89.8 scores for the weekend. Lil Dis' 88.5 and 89 scores do not reflect his capabilities, and once he starts putting mistake-free runs together, his results should improve. The bag of tricks of Azonic's Jeff Tilton included perfectly flat table· tops and smooth no-hander land· ings, good enough for sixth- and seventh-place finishes. LBZ's Dan Pastor was doing the biggest cliffhangers ever on his way to eighth- and sixth-place finishes. Pastor was standing straight up over his handlebar, with only his feet touching the bike. eN Providence Civic Center Providence, Rhode Island Resuhs: March 2·3, 2001 FRI: 1. Dustin Miller (Han): 2.
