SFX/lFMA Freestyle Motocross Series Rounds 1 7-1 B; Providence Civic Center By JOEY CASEy/PRACTICE TRACK MAGAZINE PROVIDENCE, RI, MAR. 2-3 or the first time in 2001, "Mad" Mike Jones lost an event. The Red Bull Kawasaki rider was upset on Friday night by Thor rider Dustin Miller who, using his highlight trick (a cliff hanger to no-handed landing), won by a single point. Unfortunately for Jones, he was unable to retaliate on the second night after crashing in practice and suffering a mild concussion. Jones was attempting a no-footed nac-nac, but never got his feet back on the pegs, landing feet-first alongside the bike. Providence marked Miller's third win in his last four contests, as Jones missed rounds due to overseas commitments. Another rider who was forced to sit out Saturday's competition was legendary magazine test rider/So Cal pro Shane Trittler. After qualifying for his first-ever Freestyle main event and finishing seventh on the first night, the Split/Reef rider looped out while going for a seatgrab variation and was forced to ghost the bike. Trittler fell 30 feet to the floor and broke his foot. Both he and Jones got an extensive tour of the local hospital, and returned to the Civic Center as spectators. Metzger Motorsports' Drake McElroy just missed the win on both nights. After a run that emulated that of his friend, Miller, McElroy missed pulling a trick over his final jump in Friday night's main. Had he not dead sailored his final jump, he F (Above) Dustin Miller was flawless on his way to his fifth and sixth wins of the season. (Below) Drake McElroy's no-footed nac-nacs are unbelievable. (Right) Jake Windham closed In on Nate Adams In the points standings with a pair of fourth-place finishes. He and Adams are the only riders other than Mike Jones doing the new "kiss of death" trick. n __ •
