of the dropping of the gate. Quickest
on the draw was Honda-driven
Michael Clement, who dominated the
moto from start to finish, running into
lappers on the white-flag lap. The
battle for second was between "red"
rider Greg Howard, KTM-mounted
Pete Watson and Jerry Joiner on his
Yamaha, and it burst into flames in
the early laps, with Howard and Joiner pulling slightly ahead by the time
they rounded the final corner and
took the checkers. A fierce four-way
fight for fourth raged between Watson, Darwin Huckabee, Mickey Pizzatola and Dan Scheffler, with Watson
holding the edge to the finish line, followed by Huckabee in fifth place.
Moto two was shortened to two
laps due to impending darkness.
Clement once again claimed the
holeshot, but not without a little dicing with Pizzatola through the S-turn
before the whoops. By end of first
lap, Clement had a strong hold on the
lead. Pizzatola and Joiner fought for
second, followed by Huckabee and
Kawasaki jockey Mark Lowry.
Clement went on to win his second
moto, claiming the overall. Joiner
(3-2) finished second, with Pizzatola
(6-3) taking third. Huckabee (5-4)
was fourth, and Lowry (8-5) was fifth.
In the first 60cc (10-11) moto, the
holeshot was lassoed by Kawasaki
pilot Jay Teske, who was shadowed
by KTM jockey Brandon Miller. Corey
Smith led the chase for third, with
Tyler Cox and David Wood Jr. in tow.
Miller opened up his throttle and
passed Teske on lap two, earning a
four-second advantage: Smith continued to hold third place, with Cox on
his rear fender. Midway through the
moto, the clock showed 10 seconds
separating the top four racers from
the rest of the pack. On the white-flag
lap, Miller opened up a monster lead,
while Teske held his distance in front
of Smith. The top three racers continued to open up a big gap on Wood,
running in fourth, who took advantage when Cox began haVing bike
trouble on lap three that caused him
to pull off the track. The top five in
moto one were Miller, Teske, Smith,
Wood and Aaron Caskey.
Miller took the holeshot in moto
two and went on to repeat wins in this
event, taking the overall. After fixing
his mechanical problems, Cox ran
solid in second, just ahead of the hot
action between Wood and Teske for
third. Teske dodged Wood's roost
until he was able to pull a fast one
and sneak by Wood on the inside of
the final corner to steal third. The
battle for fifth was won by Dillon
Solly, who finished in front of Caskey
and Bradley Grisanti.
Having just returned from several
months on the California racing circuit, Rookie Pro Justin Smith claimed
the overall 125cc Pro win by sweep-
