i~ ~ Date I~ Time MARCH 200... Garner was agllin off to an early lead in race two. Cashen and Sterling gave chase, but by the white flag, Ayumu Takeichi had gotten around Cashen and Sterling and set his sights on Gamer. Takeichi set up a pass through the kink and finished it in the serpentines. Gamer tried to retaliate, but Takeichi held on for the win and third overall. Garner's second garnered the overall win, with Cashen third and second overall. Sterling was fourth but Van Slyke eamed fourth overall. R.sults 2. MlchMI Moser; 3. Allan Webster, 4 Kevin Jump; 5. By JOHN BETHEA SAN JACINTO, CA, FEB. 16 A.J. Steinbach's victory in the 125cc Beginner class on a brand-new Yamaha was a highlight in an evening of upsets and near-upsets at the fourth round of the No Fear Clothing Motocross Series at Competition Park. Steinbach improved in each of his three motos while breaking in the bike - which was so new that he rode without any numbers on the plates - finishing third, then second and finally first in the decisive third race when he bested series points leader Blake Wade, whose disappointing final moto cost him the overlllll for the second week in 1lI row. Last week, Wade won the first two events before crashing on the last lap in the finale to slip to third. Tonight, he again won the first two races and needed only a third-place finish in the last to gather the victory, but a bad start and apparent bike problems lell him a distant fifth for only second overall. He still retains the points lead, though, as Justin Mills could only manage a fifth in the trophy line this week after winning last week. While this contest was going on in the second wave, up front in the first was a terrific "not a mismatch" match race between Professional rider Brian McCulloch and top Junior rlllcer Jeff Loop. In all three encounters, the glllp between the pair of Honda riders was slim. In the second moto, Loop got the holeshot and led throughout. He nearly repeated that effort in the final, but McCulloch had other ideas. "[McCulloch) banged into me a couple of times, riding hard," explained Loop, "and when I was trying to pass a lapped rider late in the race, he got outside and around me. But beating him once really makes me happy." Upsetting an older. more-experienced racer was also on the mind of BOcc (12-13) rider Bruce Marada, who faced-off with BOcc (14-]6) racer Brandon Hiner in all three BOcc motos. It didn't come to pass, but the effort was there, with each Yamaha rider winning his separately scored class. The only "upset" in the 60cc Beginner division was how Trevor Espie felt when he led every lap of every moto except - you guessed It - the final lap of the last moto, when a miscue tripped him back to second place, though that was still good for the overall. Justin Hommel made a strong comeblllck when he overcame a second-moto fourth to ace out Espie in the last race, giving him second place overall. The series leaders in this class placed third and fourth, and Tommy Madden pulled even with Daniel Arredondo after four rounds, with each Kawasaki rider now at 151.
