Willy _ Glen Helen Raceway Park: Jared Minor topped the 12Scc Junior class with two mota wins in San Bernardino, California. By ROCKV HASH SAN BERNARDINO, CA, FEB. 17 After almost a full month of rainy weekends, Mother Nature finally cooperated by providing picture-perfect, sunny weather for a large turnout of riders during Racing Enterprises Motorsports' weekly Saturday Motocross. One of the best contests of the day tumed out to be the 125cc Junior division. Jared Minor topped the class by posting a pair of moto wins. In the first moto, he gated second, behind the holeshot of Yamaha rider Danny Gilmore. Minor followed Gilmore for three laps before making his move and taking over the lead. Once out front, Minor stretched out a five-second gap on the 14-rider field by the time he took the checkers. Mike Basher charged hard after a poor start and finished second. Gilmore hung on for third. . In moto two, Ryan Corum ripped a nice holeshot, with Minor running second and Matt Latendesso hoiding third. Minor slipped by Corum before the end of lap one and took command of the moto from there, eventually winning by more than 10 seconds. Corum finished his strong ride in the runner-up slot, while Gilmore again claimed third. On the day, Minor's perfect 1-1 rides eamed him the overall win. Gilmore's consistent 3-3 finishes earned him the second-place brass, while Corum's 6-2 scores were good for third In the 250cc Pro class, Doug Dubach flew his Dubach Racing Development/O'Neil-sponsored YZ250F to both moto wins to earn the top cash on the day. Dubach got the holeshot in the first moto and was five seconds out in front by the halfway mark of the 20-rninute race. Motocross Action/White Brothers-backed Willy Musgrave ran second for most of the moto before an altercation with Donald Upton nearly sent him careening off the track and back to fourth place. In the end, Dubach took the moto win handily, with Upton in second and Z-Racing/Wind-TWS rider Mark Tilley in third aboard his KTM SX 250. In moto two, Dubach again shot out front, with Tilley running second and Musgrave in third. First-moto runner· up Upton came off his machine in the second corner and hit the ground hard. By the time he remounted, he was nearly a lap down. Dubach continued mistake·free all the way to the checkers for another impressive moto win and the overall on the day. Musgrave and Tilley battled for the whole moto, with Tilley holding off Musgrave to the checkers for second. Tilley (3-2) took second overall, while Musgrave (4-3) was third. FEB. 25 Round one of the Arkansas Hare Scrambles Series was held at Sturkie Road in Salem, Arkansas. Sturkie provided a quality woods race, produced by Shane and Travis Tracker. Due to heavy rains the day before the event, the trail had several gnarly uphills, deep mud· holes and rutted-out creek crossings. The tight, technical race precluding any chances of riders using fifth or sixth gear and allowed for true woods-racing skill to prevail. Close racing was the rule of the day. Drew Chandler jumped into the lead from the start in the AA class, but he ended up dropping out after the third lap due to a problem with his rear tire. A new AA rider. 15year-old Josh WeisenfeJs, riding a KTM 125, captured the lead on the second lap and led throughout the race until the last lap. KTM 250 rider Martin Upton and Weisenfels battled to the end, with Honda pilot Chris Andrews in close pursuit. On the last lap, Weisenfels was leading. Upton closed in on him and the battle for the lead was on. Upton made the pass and grabbed the lead. Upton had no intention of giving up the overall victory, and he held his place to the finish.
