LYLE LOVm MOTORSPORTS Schmeisser's quest for gold continued in the 250cc C class. In the opening moto, he worked his way up and into the lead by the halfway mark. The final lap turned into a brawl, however, and Schmeisser crashed back to a seventh-place finish. J.J. Mackey gained three positions during the final lap and took the moto win. In moto two, Brad Simpson led from start to finish, netting the class win via his 3-1 score. Series winner Mackey was runner-up for the day with 1-5 finishes over Jason Cross. Schmeisser overcame a slow start to finish second in the final moto, netting fourth overall. Shane Lusk was out front and alone for most of the day en route to wins in both 125cc Youth motos. In 125cc A racing, however, Lusk banged bars throughout the day with Derrick Fisher. Alabama's Chad Ward skirted their conflict and won both motos. Lusk eventually edged Fisher for runner-up honors in a points tie. SYD Racing's Fisher returned in 250cc A action and won both motos over Jordan Peeples. 1:11 Pandise Off-llutl hlil MX Macon, &ellrlil IIesuIts: febnwy 4, 2081 lRau d 5 .. 5l 50 SHAFT: 1. It all started way back in April in Kyalami, South Africa and wound its way around the globe for thirteen two-race rounds in search of a Champion for the Millennium. One thing that would be certain is that it would not be a Fifth World Title for the King of Superbikes, the legendary Carl Fogarty who had a horrific career ending crash in Round 2 at Phillip Island, Australia. It all added up to some of the greatest, most intense Superbike racing of all time. For the first time in years the Championship was wide open and the top riders would battle'for every inch of the track. Texan Colin Edwards (runner up in '99), wanted to take it to another level with his new twin cylinder Honda RC-51. 'The Sideways Samurai' Noriyuki Haga would blow the season apart with some of the most aggressive and inventive riding ever witnessed. Australian Troy Corser had things to prove, and returned on the stealthy matte-black Aprilia RSV 1000 to shock the biking world with Its immediately competitive edge. And wild card Neil "Hodgson saw his chance 10 carry the British flag, racing fearlessly to throttle the GSE Ducati over the line on home turf at Brands Hatch. This three-hour program is the full and complete account of the season with relentless, aggressive and determined riding from every round of the 2000 World Superbike Championship. 180 minutes from White Star/Duke Video a U a • _ n __ s • MARCH 14,2001 57
