Michael LaChase was on the gas, stalking through the pack to claim third and then second. Catching Brown was a horse of a different color, however. Brown was in the zone, dialing up his speed to run off and hide, LaChase secured second, and Davis led Jake Mitchell, Justin Pankratz and Dylan Stahl through the pipes. Race two was another "How to Race a Pee Wee on the Big Track" clinic, as Brown popped another holeshot and began his assault on the course. LaChase quickly rolled up into second, but the real rZlcing was for third - and a dandy dust-up it was, indeed, with Pankratz, Stahl and Davis passing and repassing often enough to leave the spectators dizzy. It all ended when Pankratz went down in a sweeper, opening up the field. Out in front. Brown was a speeding train, blasting across Tellez, Dustin' 'em at the Canyon HalpIn (Hoo). VET PRO; I. By FINISH LINE PHOTO PEORIA, AZ., JAN.14 The second round of the Grand Canyon State Classic Series race at Canyon Offroad Park started out a little too wet for some of the racers, due to excessive rain. This didn't seem to matter much to some of the racers who like a variety and even a little mud. None of the racers seemed to enjoy it more than the younger motocrossers. With all classes competing, the most popular seems to be the 80cc Beginner class, in which the potential new Carmichaels, McGraths and Pastranas rise to the occasion. At Canyon, the class has a wide array of riders, including a young female Yamaha rider, Yanni Krehbiel, who finished 15th, proving that playing in the dirt isn't just for the boys. With 50 percent of the riders receiving tro~ phies, first-time trophy winners such as Jeff Brown will surely be looking for more. The overall on the day went to the promising HiTech Coating-sponsored Dustin Tellez, who finished first in both motos, taking the number-one trophy for the day. FollOWing Tellez was Kawasaki jockey Jeremy Williamson. The third spot on the podium belonged to Wes Foster, riding another KX80 sponsored by CWI. Results Hanford Motorcycle Park Superminis in the final race in the first round, the decision came down that it would be Stapleton, Bess Best the Rest By JOHN BElllEA HANFORD,CA,FEB. 11 Suzuki's Shane Bess and Honda's Dennis Stapleton scored muddied 125cc and 250 Pros wins, respectively, at the rain-shortened third round of the Northern Califomia qualifiers for the CMC Golden State Nationals at Hanford Fairgrounds. "Ride your first moto ZlS if it were your last moto," were the instructions given by CMA/CMC race promoter Aaron Pipes before the practice even began, his face drenched by light sprinkles. "If it gets sloppy out there and the [Iapl checkers can't read your numbers, well, we can't promise you'll get your second moto." His prediction proved correct. By the time the 125cc Pros hit the track for their 10-lap event, the course was already to lead Mitchell and Stahl in the standings. Woodo CHoo). 80 (7·11); \. ""'"""",.. Hart opened some eyes with the holeshot in race two. Josh laFountaine was right there once again, as was Prince Kapahulehua. Parker was again thrashing through the weeds on his way to first place; by midrace, Parker took over after another scintillating struggle with Josh laFountaine. The top two riders stayed close all race long, but Parker prevailed once again, eaming the overall 80cc (12-16) title over the tenacious Josh Lafountaine and Hart. Hayes knocked off the 80cc (7-11) class, leading Jeagher LaFountaine and Kapahulehua in the results. CN Results P/W S1X (4-6): 1. Tonvny Krause (Pol). P/W STK (7·8): I.
