However. he found it impossible to pass up the opportunity to ride Laughlin, which he considers the most enjoyable event of the Silver State Series. even if he did have to race a 125 for the first time. It marked the second time in the desert for GNCC racer Calkins, who said, ·This is fun. it's a lot different; it's something to look forward to. It's hard to adapt. coming straight from out east to going as fast as this thing goes in fifth gear. The first coupie laps were shaky, but it came -back to me on the last lap. I pulled it together. and it worked out good. " Freestyler Mike Metzger, a former motocross racer. showed up at Laughlin to contest the Ironman Expert class, in which he placed second to Greg Zitterkopf. Metzger has also been doing some road racing lately. and the guys at Race Tech talked him into trying Laughlin. He seemed to enjoy himself, taking it easy in the beginning then picking it up in the last two loops. Metzger may race the Phoenix round of the WORCS series.
