Will Rogers Coliseum Emig Lassos Double Win at Will Rogers Bv KAT SPANN AND THE BECKSTER FORT WORTH, TX, JAN. 7 With 42 heats, 17 semis and 16 main events, it was a full day of Amateur Arenacross at Will Rogers Coliseum. Bryan Emig was the only racer to collect double class wins. Emig's zesty holeshots and perfect maneuvering kept him at the front of the pack in both the Over 25 and Over 30 classes. Ernig Racing/St. Louis Powersports/Shiftbacked Emig took the holeshot ahead of the 12-rider gate. JM Racing/Mitchell's Cycle· sports/Waco Vamaha-sponsored Franz Hyland ran second, with Randy Hayes in third and Lee Upton in fourth. Emig put some distance on the pack and eventually took the win with ease. Upton charmed his way by Hayes on the first lap and held third, behind Hyland, for the duration. Brad Blaine diced it up with Ardie Davis and Troy Smith on the third lap, coming out on top to finish fourth at the checkers, followed by Hayes, who had gone down but fought his way back up to finish fJfth. The 125cc Schoolboy, Collegeboy and both 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes were a tossup. Ty Conner was clearly the fastest, but a jump on a red-cross fiag cost him the 125cc Intermediate win. Honda of Houston/Cti2/Scott/Super Fast Fuel's Conner shot off the gate with a handsome holes hot in the Collegeboy (16-24) main event to take an early lead, followed by Costa Rica's D&S Kawasaki/Pro Circuit/No Fear/Renthal/iMS-sponsored Edgardo Rojas. Rodney Clark and Caleb Chalmers diced it up in the- early laps, changing positions until Munn Racing's David Tarnow slipped by in fourth and separated the two on the second lap. Chalmers raced in third, Tamow fourth and Clark fifth. Clark charged back on Tamow with Jeremy Durrett in his wake. Durrett mjscued in the first tum off the start and set a blistering pace to catch the front-runners but then went down again a couple of laps later. Conner took the win, followed by Rojas and Clark. Reynard Mod/Fox/Smith(furl's Up-backed Thomas Hahn snapped up the 125cc Schoolboy holeshot in front of Central Vamaha/ Wiseco's Rusty Huddle, Tech/ Thor/ PJI's Ryan Nett and Highlands Kawasaki/ Axo's Randy Childers. Although the riders maintained high speeds, the positions remained the same throughout all six laps, with GSMX West's Cody Drewek fifth at the checkers. Team Green/Carrollton Kawasaki/ LCS/A1pinestars' Jeremy Durrett grabbed the holeshot at the start of the 250cc Intermediate main. Cody Rheinlander qujckJy moved into second out of the first turn through the whoops. Rheinlander pressured Durrett into the fifth lap, when he passed for the lead and held it the remaining two loops around the arena. Two Wheel World's James Hill finished third, followed by Erik Huedepohl and McFly Scheel. Iowa's Cody Gilmore put his KC80 out front in the Supermini event and held the lead to the finish. Wyoming's Layton Cycle/ FMF/SH Racing's Levi Jensen charged in second, harassed by Greg Chapman, who finally got by Jensen on lap three and held on to the end. Jensen managed to protect his line against Troy Lee's Bryan Zachary, forcing Zach to take fourth, followed by Longhorn Powersports-backed Justin Uttle. 48 FEBRUARY 14, 200t • cue who had suffered a lessthan-stellar start, picked off the riders one at a time, going from seventh at the end of the first lap to finish fourth at the checkered flag. In the Supermini event, Gilmore again absconded with the holeshot, and Maier was again in the runner-up spot as they hit the course at full speed. John Baker got a little squirrelly off the start and ended up taking Chapman down in a first-turn cluster. Both were able to get up and get going again at the back of the pack. Maier took over the lead on the first lap and showed Gilmore, Zachary and Dustin Shows around the course. Jerad Dearmon and Cory Green kept them in sight, running fifth and sixth. Dearmon miscued on the second lap and lost three positions; Green moved up a notch and then pressured Shows through the whoops to take over fourth. Meanwhile, Maier, Gilmore and Zachary had extended their lead to almost 10 seconds by the end of the third lap. Shows went down on the last lap in the Will Rog.... Coliseum: Bryan Emig set a pace that no other whoops, giving Voit fifth.
