On the first lap, Joel Roman moved into second, behind Schoonover, with Amos behind him. Shaun Lagan had fourth, and Katie Hudson was running in fifth. At the end of the first lap, the running order was Schoonover, Roman, Fikaris, Lagan and Brewer. Doss, who was runner-up in the first moto, came around in ninth on the first lap and spent the entire second lap charging up to fifth. Brewer moved into fourth, and when the white flag came out, it was still anyone's moto. One shift in the front-runners and the overall would be completely different. However, when the checkered flag came out, no positions had changed, and there were three riders tied for the overall. Schoonover's 6-1 finishes gave him top honors, with Fikaris' 34 score beating out Doss' 2-5 tally to take second place overall. Brewer took fourth overall, and Roman's 125 finishes got him a place in the top five overall. _ Mills IIoad MotoenIss Putr Heaston, Tlus Results: .....aary 21, 2001 [Round 2J 51 (4-6): I. Five separate shows during the weekend gave nearly 60,000 spectators a taste of supermotard-style racing, as SuperlT provided an added attraction for the fans of the everpopular SFX Monster Jam event. The course snaked through a footballfield-sized area of dirt featuring bumps, jumps and turns, steering the bikes clear of monster-truck fodder (Le., crushed cars). The main straight skirted the full length of a sideline on the concrete floor into a left-hand bend through an end zone and back onto the dirt. Cola syrup coating added grip to the polished floor, yet the surface remained slick due to dust created by the trucks. Each show saw the 30-bike field seeded into two heats and a last-chance qualifier. With only 16 spots each main, several SlTARS regulars were truly challenged to earn a transfer spot. Stanley's high-flying style over the IT -style tabletop jump made him a popular winner with the crowd in Friday night's opener. Riding a Honda CR250 fitted with 19-inch wheels and dirt-track tires, the BBRP/Maryotts Honda/Joe Russle-sponsored rider caught a break when Kopp got caught up in a turn-two melee and stalled his KTM 400 E/XC. AMA Grand National Champion Kopp was back on top the following afternoon, having swapped his bike's 17 -inch supermotard rear wheel and rain tire for a 19-inch hoop wearing soft-compound dirt-track rubber. Finding grip in the loose ~irt was the main directive, as excessive wheelspin on the concrete was pretty much a given regardless of tire choice. With Kopp absent Saturday night due to other obligations, Stanley took an unmolested victory ahead of the Yamaha YZ400F-mounted duo of Jeff Annen and Scott Rose. Sunday's early show saw Stanley's additional track knowledge put to good use in maintaining a narrow flag-to-flag lead over Kopp, with Rose a solid third. While nothing spurs a Monster Truck crowd to life quite like the Grave Digger rolling onto its roof, the weekendis SuperTT finale came close. Kopp put his KTM Sport Motorcycles/Screwy Designs-sponsored four-stroke out front on the opening lap, with Stanley in tow. The friendly racing rivals ran nose to tail for several laps, with Stanley making his presence felt by jabbing Kopp with a wheel here and an elbow there. Three laps from the end, Stanley carried enough momentum over the tabletop jump to pull even with Kopp through the rocker section and steal the inside line into the hairpin that followed. Kopp countered on the next lap with the same move, although a bit deeper into the turn, resulting in aT-bone collision that sent Stanley to the ground. This gave the race-long battle between Rose and Annen new meaning, but two turns from the finish the pair tangled and fell, handing the runner-up spot back to Stanley, who had rejoined the fray in fourth. _ To_ Dome TOCOIlIa.
