"I started from the last row of the grid and had to wait four or five laps before I could start to catch Chuck," said Haskovec on the victory podium. Graves admitted that it looked like he had his work cut out for him this season. "It looks like Haskovec is going to give me a run for my money for the class championship this year: said Graves, who also stated that he does plan to run the full WSMC program this season. Haskovec won the Hypercycle Formula Two Grand Prix race, leading the event from start to finish after he grabbed the holes hot off the line. He was followed by Matt Wait in an early second and Graves in third. Graves found himself pushed back a spot when he was passed by Mark Palazzo on the back straight on the first lap. Wait's race came to an early end at the completion of lap four when he pulled off the track with a mechanical problem. That moved Palazzo up into second and Jason Pridmore into third. The battle for second place was far from over, as Palazzo and Pridmore were soon challenged by Jacob West and Jason DiSalvo. Those four racers swapped spots for the next three laps. By the end of lap eight of the 10-lap race, Pridmore had managed to establish himself in second, and West was third. Despite multiple attempts to change those positions, at the finish it was Haskovec with the win, followed by Pridmore in second. West barely edged out DiSalvo for third. In the GMD Computrack Los Angeles 600cc Super Stock race, Robbie Dowie was the fastest rider off the line, but midway through the first lap, he was caught and passed by West and Palazzo. A few turns later, a charging Haskovec powered into the lead, pursued by Palazzo. At the halfway point of the six-lap event, Haskovec was leading, but Palazzo was doing everything possible to pass him, sitting on Haskovec's rear tire. Near the end of lap four, Palazzo moved alongside Haskovec in the long turn-eight sweeper, but he was forced to back off as the racers rounded the tight turn nine. Meanwhile, Wait emerged in a solid third. As the final lap got under way, Palazzo continued to dog Haskovec, but going through turn eight for the final time, the leaders came up on some lapped riders. Haskovec had to make a daring maneuver to get past a lapper, but he still managed to maintain the lead to the line, giving himself the race win. Palazzo was second and Wait third. Jr-------....,.. ~ z ~ Can't Catch Hrach at CRC Grand Prix By GREG ROBERTSON PALMDALE, CA, JAN. 14 Thousand Oaks Yamaha-sponsored Tracy Hrach made his way to the front of the OldTimers MX Association Master A class and never looked back,' as he easily took the win and the first-place payback dUring Califomia Racing Club's Happy New Year Grand Prix, held at Los Angeles County Raceway. With a wave of his green flag, starter Don Gossett got the 45-minute race under way. CR500-mounted John Ferro grabbed the early lead. followed by Willie Kennedy, Hrach, Ed Tripp and the rest of the field. By the completion of the first lap around the course, which included both the Saddle Glen and J.B. Memorial tracks, Kennedy was out front, with Hrach closing in. A lap later, Hrach was around Kennedy and already starting to pull away slightly. Ferro continued to hold down third, ahead of a good battle for fourth involving Tripp, Mark Horton, Steve Williams and Alan Delarge. Hrach sliced his way through some pretty heavy lapped traffic to eventually earn the win a safe distance ahead of Kennedy. Horton and Delarge battled over fourth place; not only did Horton prevail, he also nipped Ferro with time runnjng out to finish in the third spot. Delarge had to settle for fifth, ahead of Tripp and Williams. Steve Roark was absolutely flawless in the Master B class. Roark put his Thousand Oaksbacked four-stroke Yamaha into the lead on the opening lap and continued uncontested for the entire 45 minutes. Scott Freeman seemed to get along with his brand-new YZ250F just fine, as he overcame a back-ofthe-pack start and slowly worked his way up into a welldeserved second-place finish. Craig Staley followed Freeman up through traffic to claim third, ahead of "Dangerous" Dave Shelton and Ernie Kopasz. Garry Conner led a huge Expert field for the first 25 minutes of the race before a bobble allowed Steve Gardner and John Lovett to close in. Both Gardner lind Lovett passed Conner and eventually finished in first and second place, respectively. Kevin Olen brought his KTM across the line for fourth, foHowed by Stephen Day and Mike O'Donnell. Results P/W YAM BEG: I. Shane Emf!l'SOn (Suz); 2. Jemes WllCOll (Yam); 3. Luke Montgomery (Yllm); 4.
