Allen was runner-up to John Maschino but tightened his grip on the overall series championship. lap but claimed the fastest lap of 23;24 during his first lap. Maschino's fastest lap was also his first lap, and it was five seconds longer than Ricketts' time at 23:29. Maschino said he slowed down after that because he smashed his pipe, but he continued to lead for the rest of the race and won with a minute-and-a-half lead on Allen. "It was a good track, and 1 had a blast!" said the Sarge's Cycles/Suzuki/Oakley/FMF/Pro Action of Kentucky-supported Allen. "My first lap was the toughest. " He left the pileup in 12th place and was the sixth person through the score tent on the first lap. During the second lap, he started a battle with Froman that lasted for most of the race_ "Froman flew," Allen reported. "He rides good in the mud, and we had so much fun!" Allen and Froman swapped back and forth many times during the last four laps. "My hat's off to Maschino and P.A.," said River City Cycles/Cycle Path's Froman. "They definitely rode better." Froman sneaked by the mess at the start and quickly moved from fourth place to second place. From that point on, it was an ongoing battle for second place, and Froman dropped back to third place overall and third place in the AA class on the last lap. Castle Power Sports/Great Out- 42 JANUARY 24, 2001 • .,. U .,. I • doors-sponsored Jason Wofford won the Four-Stroke A class. "It wasn't a holeshot game today," Wofford said. "I had a dead-last start that got worse. After I finally got it started, my bike stalled and the Vet A class completely passed me before I got it started again. After 1 regained my composure, 1moved up to second place on the third lap." Clint Robinson was in the lead for much of the race, but Wofford poured it on and passed him a mile from the finish. Wofford was 12th overall. Rick Sims, winner of the Open B class, made five laps in two hours and 25 minutes_ "If it was dry, then 1 wouldn't have done as well," said Sims, who came in 22nd overall and was the first Open B rider this season to be in the top 25 overall. "1 had a good day, and it was a good course. I like it tight, technical, muddy and fast." Track official Lance Martin said the course was laid out on old mining fields from the 1950s. "Don't let these flat grounds fool you," Martin warned. "There are hills back there." "It was muddy and rough and a matter of picking good lines," said the winner of the Four-Stroke B class, John Rowling. Little Egypt made sure there were plenty of lines to choose from in the troubling areas. CN n e _ 51' By NEAL R. THOMAS for the launch. "Revving Ronnie" did so in the premier 250cc Money class, and O'Daniel won the increasingly popular Open class. Ramiscal was also a strong contender in the hotly contested 125cc Money class, in which he finished a close second to Brian Young.
