. • I. Date I ~ Time ~ JANUARY 2001 Henderson's Arena Complex Walke and Walker Run Good at Jackson By RUPERT X. PEUETT JACKSON. OH, NOV. 18 Local racer Ty Walke and Trenton, Ohio's Chad Walker were two of the big winners in Jackson, Ohio, as hundreds of avid racers turned out to this massive horse bam-turned- motocross track in southern Ohio for the sec· and round of the Ohio Arenacross Championship Series. Riders jockeyed for money and trophies as the hearty throng of competitors fought tooth and nail inside the cozy complex. Walker, proud owner of a new KTM 520 SX, thrust his orange Plessinger's Cyclessponsored machine in front of Ross Adams' Trackside Graphics·backed YZ426F as they battled for the lead in the Open class. Adams had won this event the previous night, but this was to be Walker's night; he powered his booming machine to the front, leaving Adams the runner-up spot. Walke did battle in the 250cc B class, but he was unable to do anything about the very speedy Travis McQueen. Whiie McQueen eventually ran off with the first· place trophy, Walke posted an impressive second place behind the Suzuki jockey. It was a Walke-Walker war in the Over 25 class. Walke was able to thrust his RM250 ahead of the mighty KTM of Walker, enabling him to take the victory, although Walker was not far behind for second spot. Austin Coon looked good on his Yamaha PW50. This young racer from Spencer, West Virginia, notched another win as he bested runner· up Tommy Meiers for the top spot on the podium. Medina, Ohio's Vince Kamow, a regular on the Nationals and Pro circuits. came down from up north to battle for some of the prize money in Jackson. Kamow took the win and the cash in the 250cc A Money class, while Charlie Dunaway took the J 25cc A win. Result. 50 (4-8): I. Austin Coon (Yom); 2. Tommy Meiers (Yom); 3. Mitch Dowell (Yom). GEORGE, UT, NOV. 24-25 FOUNTAIN, FL. NOV. 12 Shane Lusk put in a fuJI day of racing at County Line's last race of the season. The Bainbridge, Georgia, rider took his Honda CRs to wins in the Youth and 125cc Money class· es. In the 250cc Money class, Lusk went 2-2 behind the commanding wins of Cycle Nation's Jordan Peeples. Lusk gave the field a head start to the first turn in the opening Youth mota. Ben Fleetwood used the inside line to grab the holeshot ahead of Chris Scott and Clint Stagner. By the end of the first lap, Lusk had passed everyone except the Honda-mounted Fleetwood, On the next lap, Lusk swept wide after a tabletop and passed Fleetwood for the win. Lusk again started behind everyone in moto two. Stagner took the holeshot over Fleetwood, Scott and Jim McArthur. Fleetwood moved out front and Lusk worked his way into second on the first lap. Lusk passed for the lead on a downhill and began to pull away, With only half a lap to go, Fleetwood lost second place whert he fell on an uphill. Lusk won over Stagner, a fast-closing Scott and YZ rider McArthur. Kevin Knight led the first 250cc Money race, ahead of Lusk and Peeples. Coming out of tum two, Peeples moved into second. Lee Spann put his KX250 in the fourth spot as the Kris Papworth gobbled up a large field of 125cc Pros at the Utah Sportsman Riders Association and SI. George Motocross Club's big two-day Thanksgiving Motocross Classic. With more than 500 entrants each day, the annual event always fields large classes, and the 125cc Pro race was no exception. Branden Barnes blasted out in front of fellow Lehi, Utah, hotshoes Kipp Posey and Skyler Harris and the rest of the Pros. Josh Taylor and Mike Oliver were on their tails. Papworth was trailing the lead pack, trying to fight his way forward. He passed riders relentlessly, finally stuffing Harris in a sweeper to take over third on lap three. Out in front, Bames and Posey dueled wildly for the lead. As Posey made the pass, Papworth moved in tight to make it a three-way scramble. On the last lap, Taylor and Harris got together in midair over the big triple; the spectacular crash sent both of them to the ground. Neither was seriously injured, but both were too banged up to return to action. At the checkers, it was a three-way photo finish, with Posey just barely hold.ing off Bdrnes and Papworth. After mota two was forced to restart, Oliver led Bames, Papworth and the rest out onto the course, Papworth pushed his way to the front in the first few turns. Barnes hung with him in second.
