Th e lead pair pul led awa y from the pack. A midrace spill by Rei f ha nd e d fourth to Fish er. As th e race entered the fina l pha se, Pay ne tried repeatedly to find Willoh's weakness . Behind the lead du o, the battle fo r third hea ted u p when Pestana , after a poor sta rt, finally mad e his wa y to the fro nt, where he proceeded to mix it u p with Hageman and Fisher. By this point, lapped traffic was becoming a factor . The experienced Pesta na w eaved past both Hagem an an d Fish er to ta ke over thi rd. At the white flag , Payne placed his fron t wh ee l next to Willoh's and they raced do w n the straigh taway a nd in to the sweeper side by side. Payne p ulled a head of Willoh as they en tered the final obs tacles. Willoh dived under Payne as they exited the fina l tum, but Payne held firm as Willoh slid out just a bit, an d that was all Payne needed to cross the line first for the win. The seven th race of the MRANN series brought more than 130 racers to the desert on a dust-filled day. As is the case in most d ry , desert condition.. .., the start was important. Beling heri jumped out in fron t, but Greg Searle tk the inside line and led into the first san d wash. Josh Wilso n, Emit Taylo r and Rob Zim merman trailed behind. As the Ama teu rs started, Dana Losey grabbed the holes ho t and never looked back. In the Novice class, David Mayer and Wayne Thompson were battl in g for the lead . The Over 30 leader, Bill Diaz , was battling with his rival Marty Kennedy, and Mark Dowers wa s leading the Over 38 class. Losey continued to smoke the Ama teur clas..<;, and Mayer was leading the N ovices. The second loop was rougher and more technica l. However, this didn't slow Beling heri . "I h.,d a big lead, so I just tried to ride smooth and in control. " Belingheri later reported. Zimmerman, who was ch arging b~hind, crashed and broke his handlebars . This let Hamel move u p to second . Belingheri took the cht..ockered nag for first overall and his second MRANf' win this season. Hamel finished sc'COnd, first Open bik e. Searle finish ed thi rd .
