Oxley was the on ly one wi th a list of peo ple to than k, as he wa nted to make sure he did n't miss a ny one. D.avid Lynch (126). rc: Enochs - dustin' the competition By Jim & Valerie Enos HOLLISTER, CA, NOV. 7 Dustin Enochs power ed his DH Cycles-backed KTM 65SX to convincing wins in both the 60cc Interm ed iate and Open classes a t rou nd two of the AMP / GFI Gold Cup Octoberfest MX Series, presen ted by Tho r an d Merced Powerspo rt s. The scene was the majestic Hollister Hills Race-way, and more than 210 rid ers took to the AMPpr ep ped tr ack. Alt hou gh hea vy gus ts of w ind prevailed most of the day, racin g conditio ns we re ideal. In the 60cc Open class, Ryan Mar tin grabbed t he ho lesh o t in m ot o o ne a hea d of En o ch s, Matthew Sp encer , justin Enos a nd Tyler Freeman. Enochs qu ickly go t by Ma rtin to tak e the lead , with Spen cer in tow. Enos also got by Martin and went afte r Spen cer, bu t some nastybraking bumps a t the bott om of the d ownhill se n t Enos tumb lin g . Marti n inhe rited third - p lace w hil e Spen cer w o r ked on tr y ing to r eel in Enochs. However, Enochs pretty mu ch checked out on the field a nd e vent ua lly took the win . Freem an crossed the finish line in fourth, followed by Ruben Hernandez. In mot a two, Enoch s once aga in ra n aw ay wi th the win, as no one could come d ose to chal lenging the speedy young rider. Enqs, backed by DH Cycle s a nd Thor , rebou nd ed with a so lid second place, barely holding off a hard-chargin g Spe ncer. Martin and Freeman rou nded out the top five. In the 60cc Intenned ia te Class , Enochs con· tinued his winning wa ys after once again se tting a pa ce that no other rid ers could match. Freeman, aboard a brand-new Kawasaki KX65, did his best to keep Enochs in sight, but with little success. Enos, after pas sin g Freem an , took his shot at chasing d own Enoc hs . Enos ended up going do wn, hand ing second back to Freem an and also letting Marti n by. Enochs took the victory , with Freeman a di stant second . Enos recovered from his get-off and managed to get around Martin on the fina l lap for third . In mo to two, Frc'eman gra bbed the holeshot, bu t h is lea d wa s shor t-lived , as Enochs once aga in got out front and sim ply ra n away fro m th e p ack. Mar tin, also spo rti ng a new g reen KX65 and ru nni ng in second , got pressu re from Enos a tabout th e haHwa y po int. Howev er , w h ile attempting to make an insid e pass on Martin, Enos once aga in hit the soil after clip ping a tree. Freema n seized the opportunity and moved into third but fou nd Martin jus t too far a he ad to make a pa ss. Eno chs too k th e wi n , makin g it four straight on the day. In the 60cc Novice class , Cod y jackson put his Kawasaki ou t front in both motos to take a well-ea rn ed vic to ry over Ruben Hernand ez . Luke Layton , aboard a KTM, went down hard in the first moto, but he rebounded with a second in the second mot a to take third o vera ll. Eric Poth went 3-4 for fourth overa ll. In the 60cc Beginne r class, josh ua Duppo ng posted a perfect 1-1 score, ed gin g ou t Brand on Nicho lso n. PaxTrax MtocrossP rk o a On Layman's terms By Gretchen Hamilton B UNNELL, FL, ocr.24 At round fou r of the Pax Tra x Dealer Support Series, Ricky Layman did it his way and took his self-sponsored Yamaha to two impressive wins in the two fastest classes, the 250cc B and the 16-24 classes. In the 250ccB class, there was bar banging and roost throwing between Layman and US. 1 Powersports' Yamaha-mounted jim Chludzinski. ChIudzins ki took mota one and Layman took second. In the seco nd mot a, with more scratching and fighting, Layman got the best of ChIudzinski for the mota win and the ov era ll. Chlu d zinski came in second for second overall. In the 16-24 class, Layman had his hands full with Eric McCann, on a Su ns ta te Fu n Sports Kawasaki 250, and Adam Wellman, on his Sun Ci ty Cycle Yam aha 250. Laym an put both o f them behind him for bo th moto wins. McCann and Wellman tra ded p laces for seco n d a n d third , with Wellman having the better position in the second mota for second overall. Am a teu r Nationa l-ca liber BOcc rid er Ma tt Goe rke lined u p in the 125cc C cla ss to show everyone how fast you can go on an 80. Steve Nagy was on the same start in the 12See B class, as the two classes were running combined . Even though Matt was not bein g sco red, an d Steve Nagy wa s in th e B clas s, eve ry one kn ew thi s w oul d be toda y's main event. When the gate drop ped , the two wen t directly to the front an d started to rumble. The two were side by side for most of the race, bu t Nag y let the extra cc's d o th ei r d am age , as he took th e win in the first rnot o, with Goe rke an un official second . Yamaha-mo un ted 125cc B ride r Chris Kot chk owski hu ng in for the official second place, with third going to Chad Rosselli on his Husky 125. It wa s "seco nd verse, same as the first" as mota two got un d er way . Goe rke was waili ng o n hi s Performa n ce En gin eerin g / Fox / Cycle Riders Suz uki, with Nagy not letting an y pressu re get to hi m. On the last lap, the su spense was over when Nagy railed a benn on the outside and Goerke tried the inside , only to lose the front end . Nagy checked out for the last half of the la p to take the checkers and a do uble mota win for first overall.
