In 125cc B actio n. Honda rider [amaal Bond
won both the fou r-la p heat and the eig ht-la p
main to take the win . Then , in th e 125cc A contest , hard-driving Suzuki pilot Brent Brush beat
seco nd-place finisher Damon Prince and thirdplace rider Mitchell Moor e. Brush let it all han g
out, winning the heat and the ma in.

Brush went aft er one a no ther as if they w er e
two mean a lley cats eng aged in a clawfest over
a fresh slab of sa lmo n . Brush and Bond were
side by sid e through th e fir st turn, and th ey
stayed that way. The in ten sity of th eir scuffl e
drew racers from the pit s up to the spectators'
fence an d had the crowd straining for a bett er
view .
On laps four and five, both Brush and Bond
turned eight row s of whoops into two gr acefu l
swoo ps, d earing the section with two thrustss of
the thro ttle. On lap six, Brush mad e a calcu lated
move on <1 long, sweeping curv e in the mid section of the tra ck, intending to slas h pas t Bond on
the high side of the berm - but the berm did n't
bite. Brush faltered for no mor e than a tenth of a
secon d, bu t Bond s hot ahead a bout six b ike
len gths and whippe d hi s hi gh- fl ying Honda
sideways across the finis h-line tableto p to take
the checkered in a show-stop ping victory.

McGirr whirs to the wins

It was another very compe titive night in lempster, New Hampshire, as seve ral New Eng land
Dirt Track Seri es regula rs d iced it up with th e
late-season riders.
In th e Super Senior con test, Robert McGirr
from No rwa lk, Conn ecticut. mad e his late-season pilgrimage to Jolly Rogers, and this time he
was putting on a flat-track clinic. Track regular
Da ve Bette nco urt of East Bridgewa ter, Massach usetts, m an a g ed to get t he holesho t of
ho les hot s in th e m a in a nd, h a vin g watched
McGirr dri ve away from him in the first mota,
he mad e his Honda take up all of the preferred
line for the first three laps , until McGirr got his
Yam aha sorted out. Then it was McGirr's tum.
He put hi s YZ into turn t h ree ve ry h ot a nd
und er Bett en court. Both bi ke s got very sideways, but skill an d ex perience pr eva iled , a nd
both bikes sho t d own the fron t straig ht side by
side . McGirr gained the upper hand down the
back stretch and nev er looked back. John "Yogi"
Hild ebrand , on a BSA, round ed out th e top
three.
In the 60cc heat , Shane Narbonne of Low ell,
Massachusetts, chased Manchester, New Hampshire's Troy Estabrook the entir e race, but he took
the holeshot in the fea ture and crossed the finis h
lin e fir st . KX-mounted Estabrook was seco nd,
a nd Alex Guilbeault, also on a KX, was third .
In the Open Pro event, McGirr again was the
class of the field . showing Shawn Morin of Goffstown, New Hampshire, and Bettencou rt the
fast way aro u nd the fifth- mile circuit. Except for
a few slides , no one go t in any trou ble, bu t the
raci ng ac tion was si m p ly awesom e, with a
group of e ight ri d er s racing wheel to wheel
thro ug hout the entire second mota. A three-bike
ba ttle between Hond a rid er Don Prevost, Rich
Beaurcgua rd an d defend ing points champion J.
Mark Thomas prod uced some hairy moments.
