Another successful season of California Racing Club's Saturday nigh t moto cross a t Los Angeles Coun ty Racew ay came to an end tonight, wi th Hond a-mou n ted Josh Bagge winn ing both the 125cc and 250cc Novice classes d ur ing the KTM of Mojave-spo nso red even t. Bagge started things off with a wire-to-wire w in of the first 125cc Nov ice mot o. N ick Cali ga ted i n se co nd pl ace and h eld off Rya n McConnell to claim the runn er-up position. Matt Simp son overcame a fall for fou rth, an d N ick Jepson finished a respectable fifth in his N oviceclass debut. In round two, Bagge ab sco nded wi t h the holeshot over Simpson a nd Cali. Bagge method ically p u lled aw a y to gree t the checkers w ith a comfortab le 10-seco nd cu shio n. Sim ps on kept Cali at bay for the entire moto, but it was the 2-3 of Cali tha t earned the second -place brass. Ryan Rob er tson carne across in fou rth to rou nd out t he top five on t he ni gh t, be hi n d th e 3-5 of McConnell. Bagge wa s just as im pressive in the 250cc Novice ra nks, where he once again turned a couple of good starts in to ru nawa y victories . Robby Errett finished second to Bagge in mot o one d ur in g his firs t try .in the Nov ice class, but Nei l Ch is ho lm go t the u p p er ha n d in ro und tw o, going 3-2 for second overa ll. In 80cc (7- 11) ac tio n, N ick Sanc he z held do wn the first· mo to lead for a little over a lap befo re go in g d o wn a n d d ropping to fo u rt h place. Kyle Jenkins inherited the top spot, which also las ted abou t a la p befor e he tan gled wi th another rid er in the whoops a nd end ed up on the gro u nd . Dann y Gonza lez took his turn a t the hea d of the pac k, wh ich lasted until the mid wa y point , when he fell By this time, Sanchez was all the way ba ck up in to second p lace, where he wo uld fin ish , behind winner Tann er Lan gham. Gonza lez recovered for third, ahea d of Timo thy McDaniel and jenkins. Gonzalez controlled the pace out fron t fo r t he fi rs t h a lf o f round t w o u n til a bo b b le d ropped him back in the pack. Overcom ing cras hes to score a pair of second- place finishes in the up -and·down class pu t him in the number-one spot when the rf.."Sults were tallied. Lanie Giorda no smoked the field at the start of race one, bu t he and Kipp Fletcher we nt down together in the canyo n turn . Byington was also caught up in the ca rnage, allowing Keith Clegg to take over the lead . Fletcher remounted first, but Byingto n was also up fast and on the gas. It took a lap , but Byington mus cled past Fletcher to take over second . Out in front, Clegg was on the fast track, and he won the race easily . Byington finish ed a soli d second , ahea d of Fletcher and Giordano. A rejuvena ted Lanie Giord ano took revenge in moto two, blasting out in front and into a lead he wo uld never relinq uish. Red Carp et's fl etcher tuck ed in behind him in second , ju st ahea d of Byington a nd Clegg. The detennined Giorda no ma intained a torri d pace in the po int pos itio n, w hile Bying ton was once aga in working his wa y p ast Flet ch er in to sec on d . Firs t-mo to v icto r Clegg was ha ving problems, goi ng down a coupIe of times whi le tryin g to move up. Giordano · finished off the race in first, ahead of Byington, Fletcher and Clegg . Byi ngto n's two runner-u p efforts earned him the overall Vet Novice crown, a head of Giordano, Clegg and Fletc her. In the 125ee Begin ner class, josh Ca mden had a p retty good day, winning both races the hard way, coming from behind each time. Jesse Avilla took the earl y lead in race one, ahead of jaco b Kotch and Ricky Gued ry. Camd en seemed to come from now here, passing everyone for the lead b ef ore lap o ne wa s ove r . As C a m de n stepped up the pa ce E;ven furt her and motored off to a big cushion, Avi lla a nd Kotch got into a wild, side -by-side, ove r-the- jumps ba ttle for second . Kotch eventually broke free and head ed off after Camde n. Then Ricky Gued ry came up and cha lleng ed Avilla. Cam den cru ised to the win, ahea d of Kotch, while Guedry finally'd ispat ched Avilla to claim third . At the sta rt of the se~ond half, Ko tch led Avilla a nd Gu edry ou t on to the cou rse . After ano ther med iocre star t, Ca md en was work ing h is way thr ough the pack. By the end of la p one, Camd en was all over Kotch, making his move for the lead at the pit-boa rd ar ea with an inside pass in the corner. Kotch crashed over the finishline ju mp, rui ning his chances for the overa ll, as Av illa took ov e r second .
