The 2000 Florida Flat Track Series schedule for Daytona Bike Week has been released. The series will once again open on March 3 in Savannah, Georgia. The remainder of the schedule is as follows: March 4 - Barberville, Florida; March 5 - Barberville, Florida; March 9 - Barberville, Florida; March 10 - Daytona Beach. Florida; March 11 - Daytona Beach Florida (Progressive Insurance AMA U.S. Flat Track Championships opener,) In addition, there will be three days of amateur and youth competition held at Daytona Municipal Stadium March 4, 6 and 7. For more information, call 904/788-4709. Barnett Tool & Engineering filed a complaint in the Los Angeles Superior Court on December 17 against Kent E. Foltz, individually, and doing business as Energy One, and James R. Cargo, both former employees of Barnett. Barnett is claiming breach of contract. among other things, against the two. The Fifth annual AMA Western Four·Stroke National Motocross Series will begin in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 26. For more information, call 602/815-1790. Australian road racer Brendan Clarke has signed with Cannon Racing to contest four of the six Aprilia Cup Challenge rounds that will be held at the PACE For· mula USA rounds this year. Fellow Australian Aaron Clark will join the 15-year-old on the team. Kawasaki's AMA Superbike team of Doug Chandler and Eric Bostrom are scheduled to test at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California, January 30-31, after only getting in some 40 minutes of track time due to rain at their last test at Sears on January 10-11. AMA road racing manager Ron Barrick, who will inspect the modified road course at the facility, will join them there. The two changes to the circuit were made in turns five and 11 to enhance safety. Harley-Davidson and U.S. Bancorp have announced a strategic alliance under which the U.S. bank will acquire and manage Harley·Davidson Financial Services' affinity card program, the Harley. Davidson Chrome Visa. The HarleyDavidson affinity card has grown to a level of $ 150 million in managed receivables with more than 190,000 cardholders - since its inception in August of 1997. Performance Machine Inc. filed suit on January 19 in Los Angeles Federal Court for design patent and trade dress infringement and unfair competition. The complaint alleges that Custom Chrome Inc. and co-defendant Weld Wheels manufactured and sold motorcycle wheels that replicate Performance Machine's "Twister" patented design. Performance Machine's president Perry Sands filed for a patent for the billet wheel design on July 11, 1997 and was awarded the patent on August 10, 1999. Dirt tracker Steve Morehead will be the guest of honor at the AMA Will Stoner Vintage Motorcycle Swapmeet and Show on Sunday, February 6 at the Fair Haven Hall at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield, Ohio. BMW of North 'America posted record sales of 10,088 units in 1999 - the most BMW motorcycles ever sold in one year in the U.S. market and an increase of over 30 percent over record year-end sales figures for 1998, according to BMW. Frenchman Richard Sainct (right) came from behind to notch his second win in as many years in the Dakar Rally. The factory BMW rider capitalized on late bad luck by KTM rival Juan Roma, who led overall from day two to day 13, only to suffer a blown motor. Once Roma was not a factor in the overall standings (he re-entered the rally and won the final two stages), Sainct rode conservatively, with his teammates keeping a watchful eye 'over him. Speaking of those teammates, the podium was filled with BMWs, with Spaniard Oscar Gallardo finishing runner-up and American Jimmy Lewis posting third. Lewis' result was also good enough to win the twin-cylinder class, and it was the second-best-ever finish by an American [Danny Laporte finished second on a Cagiva in '92J. Another BMW - that of Jean Brucy - was fourth, with fifth-place Jurgen Mayer fmishing as top KTM rider. "I didn't think that they [the KTMs) would prove so fragile," said Sainct, who finished the race with a fever. "I think their engine is too highly tuned. They seem to have more power than us, but on a Dakar power is useless if it doesn't take you all the way to the end." The Albuquerque, New Mexico, resident came up short on a double. and was landed on by another rider. Tedesco, sponsored by Denver's Colorado Powersports, went into a coma for three days, but has since wakened. The 20-year-old has been advised not to race again, but is already talking about finding other work in the motorcycle industry. Good luck, Gio.
