put the clamps on Sweeten's return to the top
of the ranks by beating Sweeten, who, like
Casey, was aboard a 1973 Honda CR250 Elsinore, in the first Over 30 Vintage Expert moto,
Sweeten, though, stepped up his performance,
beating Casey to the finish in mota two to nab
the overall win. Casey (1-2) finished second
overall, followed by Kawasaki·mounted John
Ulver (3-3) and Jeff Pugh, who had earUer
won the 125cc Expert dass.
CZ-mounted Chris Miller used a 2-1 tally to
win the combined Over 30 Intermediate overall.
Yamaha rider John Adams was fastest out of
the chute in the first moto, but Adams couldn't
work his way past Miller in the second moto and
was therefore relegated to second overall with a
1-2 tally, ahead of Ryan Taylor (3-3), Woody
Juarez (4-4) and LaFaye McCarver, who manhandled one of the most interesting machines
on hand - a Rickman-framed, Harley-Davidson·
powered hybrid - to fifth overall.
Chris Castles, who contested three classes,
picked up his only overall win of the day by winning the Pre-1970 Expert dass, despite pressure from Maico-mounted Jay Lael and Husky
rider Dirk Murphy In both motos. Murphy stayed
closest to Castles in moto two to net second
overall, ahead of Lael, Canada's Ken Burningham and Triumph-mounted Gene Boere.
c.J. "Siege" James, who rode a Yamaha
DTl·based machine to the overall win in the
combined Pre- "1970 Intermediate class,
nabbed the victory via 3-1 placings to lead
Triumph rider Jim Cole (2-2) and Darrel Kilgore, the first-mota winner, in the overall tally.
Daniels Ridge Supercross: Willy Baker (221 pulls the holeshot in 125cc action in Taylorsville, North Carolina, en route to a
