Raym ish in the Pro Challenge, Mike Storm wasn't finished yet. The CR jockey showed that he still had something left for his I25cc Pro competition. Storm's win was made much easier by the unfortunate demise of National number 98, Cory Bauder, who came up short in the double-jump section and suffered a possibly broken wrist. Storm took the overall with a 1-1 sweep, ahead of Chace (2-2) and Roth (3-3). Washington's Tyson Blood, aboard a Suzuki, was the top Intermediate rider. Kawasaki-mounted Tyler Fick picked up a pair of overall wins in 80cc action, first winning the Supermini class, ahead of the previous night's double winner, Adam Metzler, and Ryan Huege. Then the SMPbacked Fick went on a similar streak to win both of the 80cc age-groupclass motos. Fick topped all comers in the 14- to I6-year-old class. Metzler finished a close second to Fick for the 12- to I3-year-old-class win, followed by Yamaha rider Phillip Ehnat, Huege and Suzuki-mounted Alex Hill. Some 22 I25cc Junior contestants were evenly split into two divisions, won by Kawasaki jockey Austin Gettel and Suzuki-mounted Kyle Falr~. Gettel led Tunnell, Matt Crawford, first-moto winner Bryan Thibedeau and Tim Ricketts into the top five overall in Division One, while Falls' Division Two victory came ahead of Cody Buyas, Ryan Thompson, Alex Wirkus and Ben eN Hurlburt. In the second moto, Lindstrom came out with fire in his eyes and took the early lead, while a fierce battle erupted between Weigand, Armstrong and Reif. Of the three, Armstrong appeared to be the hungriest of the group, and he forced his way into the runner·up position by the end of the race, finishing just a few sec· onds behind Lindstrom. When all was said and done, Armstrong came out the overall winner via a 3·2 finish, which topped Weigand's 2·3, Reifs 1-4, lindstrom's 5-1 and Long's 4-5. In the minibike classes, Tanner Town's Tanner Alexander was the top 80ee Beginner racer, winning both motos of the motocross event and finishing third in both the supercross and grand prix rounds. The event combined three different race formats - motocross. supercross and grand prix. during two days of racing and posted some $10,000 in prizes and shop contingency from Thousand Oaks Yamaha. "We are paying $ J 00 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third for all classes with five riders or more, but they have to be racing a Yamaha, Kawasaki or KTM bike," said Jef Harriott, owner of the area shop. "I think we have like 30 of our riders here, and it seems like 'our guys' are either winning or finishing second in just about every class. n One of those "guys" was Armstrong, who was racing while still a little jangled only a day after a near-tragedy. "My parents got in a car crash Friday night, but they wanted me to race [today]. so I came out to do 'my best," Armstrong explained. "I am glad they are here today with me."
