Classic 500 and Over 60 Novice classes.
More than 250 entries turned out to
compete on the s woo p ing, w ell-prepared central Ohio circuit.
Mack ay's only sweep came in Spo rtsma n 250, in which he led Honda rider
Jeffrey Clark to the finish in moto one
and Suzuki-mounted Mark Plumley to
the checkers in the second moto. Clark's
2:=1 finishes were good for second overall for the da y, while Plumley put in 5-2
rid es to take third.
In a hotly contested Over 30 Intermediate class, Mackay took the first moto
by a bo u t a bike len gth over Geo rge
Fanelli, also on a Honda 250, with Clar k

Brown recorded a DNS in the first rnoto,
but he mo ved up to the lead and stayed

second by the thi rd of five laps, keeping
a h ea d of a raging b a ttl e over th ir d ,

Sturdevant's 4-3 finishe s w ere ' good
enough to earn him second for the da y,
behind Ma ck ay, with Cla rk fini shing
third wi th 3-6 placings.
Clark' s entry list wa s id entical to
Mackay's, and in the Over 40 Intermedia te co n tes t, th e H olland, Ohio, rid er
finally beat Mackay in a moto. The lat ter
was tied u p in a tou gh race for seco nd
with Bullaco rid er Da vid Brod ow sk i,
Gary Graves on a Yama ha YZ250 and
Sturde vant's Elsinore. Clark won easily,
but it wa sn 't until th e checke red flag

was Mackay (2-1) over Clark (J -3) and
Sturdevant (4-2).
The Over 30 Experts put on an excellent show. YZ250-mounted Scott Stan ford, Honda rider George Fan elli (who
upgraded him self durin g the course of
th e d ay from Intermed iat e to Expert),
an d Ma ico 400 rider James Gree nleaf
wen t at it in mot o one, w ith Stanford

There was goo d racing in the Novice
