The stock CR125 motor definite ly needed a li tt le more meat down low and up top, TMR's motor mods gave us the low end we were looking for and even impr oved the already stellar mid. For sho rt st art ing straight aways, it's holeshot city , but for longer ones the little five-speed still lac ks up top. Glen Helen , so jetting was spot-on from th e word Go, We we re im pr ess ed w it h th e im proveme nts to the motor right off the ' ba t. Eq ui p ped w it h a Bill ' s Pipe, the . motor pulled hard enoug h out of tu rns eve n for so me of our profession a l an d heavier test rid ers. Of course the ad d ition o f a 53-too th rear sp rocke t did n' t hu rt either. Stock is a 52, and eve n w ith th e e ngin e mod s we fel t it ne ed ed another toot h. Overa ll, the motor was clea ne d u p very nice ly wit h no misses in the power- , ban d , The mid ran ge im proved the most, bu t that was no surprise, as it was the part of the eng ine that nee ded the least amo unt of wor k. The only area that the motor lacked was on the very top, Still, the ad di tions were a welcome improvement. TMR turned a sleeper into a mod ified motorcycle w ith a mot or just as good as any other stock 125cc mach ine, You cou ld go buy a no ther 125, leave the eng ine stock and still be able to co mpete again st the high ly modified CRl25, bu t you wouldalso be giving up the excellent Honda craftmans hip . On the sus pe nsio n side of thin gs, we had TMR s p r ing th e bike for a 180pound Nov ice, No one managed to bottom out the shoc k or fork, which on the stock sp rings was easy to do, especia lly for a rid er of al most 200 pound s, The se tup let the suspens ion absorb more of the terrai n , a nd pu tti ng p ower to th e ground was no problem at all, TMR' s sus pens ion mod s do not come cheap, becau se they wo rk. The fork and th e s hock s prings we re cha nged and J;Ilan y of the internals we re modi fied , If y,ou look aroun d th e pits at an AMA Supercro ss or national mo tocross, you' ll no tice tha t a lot of privateers are sp rung on TMR suspension - and now we know why, We were ab le to us e the bik e on Glen Helen's National MX track and the Stadium SX track , on ly changing a few clicks here and there. , O ur entire CR125 project cost over $1000 , ho wev er TMR can ad just yo u r ' 99 CRl2S to you r likin g for an y amou nt tha t you are willing to spe nd . If you are an. aspi rin g professional ra cer or e ven ' just a ser iou s no vice, the entire pa ckage is a wo rth y investment, It ca n mean the differen ce between goi ng home from the track with a sense of ac hieve me nt and a first pl ace tro phy, o r just goi ng home, eN ~FIlIenI egan f' , . . .
