amateurs signed up te; race the 25 classes
sla ted for the d ay's progr am . Most classes were split into two gro ups so that all
rid ers were guaran teed two full motos.
McMillen managed to get his Yamaha throug h the first tu rn ahea d of the
pack but lost the lead to Steve Burd ett e
by the finish-line double. Round ing out
the top five we re McM illen, Rick Pin ney, Mike Spea r (spor ting the Over 30
Expert AMA District 34 number -one
plate), and Mark Tiesler. When the lead . ers came off the front supercross section
of th e race course, McMillen was up
front again. Burdette dropped to second,
Spear m ov ed up to th i rd , Pinn ey
d ropped to fourth and Tiesler held on to
fifth . Ju st befor e the pack d isappeared
into th e fr an t se cti on , Da g Boyes en
passed Tiesler for fifth on lap two . Spear
managed to pass Burd ett e for seco nd by
lap three, d roppin g Burd ette to th ird .
McMille n easil y won the mo ta w ith a
12-seco nd margin, trailed by Spea r, Burd ette, Boyesen and Pinney .

second Over 30 Expert mot a. Rou ndi ng

Burd ette. McM illen closed th e ga p on
Spear by the middle of lap two and made
the pass for the lead just after the tunnel
ju m p followin g th e s ta rt a rea . Sp ear
dropped to second. Boyesen and Pinney

passed Burdette to roun d out the top five.

Boyesen ma naged to red uce tha t gap to
two seconds bv the end of the mota but
cou ldn 't manage to ge t arou nd McMillen
by the checkered flag. McMillen took the
mota win, followed by Boyescn, Spear,
Pinnev and Ties ler, McMillen earned the
ct
o verall with a perfe I-I score. Rou ndi ng
out the pod ium we re Spear and Boyesen..

holeshot honors in the first 125cc Expert
mota, wit h Jerem y Eardley in tow . There
was a big pileup in the second tum and
half the pack wa s on the grou nd . When
the lead five came off the front supercross
section, the ru nni ng o rder wa s Ste rritt,
Eardley, Doug Stottle, Mike Doug herty Jr.
and Scott Phelps. The lead order di d n' t
change un til the end of lap two, w hen

had second by lap four . Sterrit t remained
ou t front wit h a five-second lead . At the
start of lap five, the leaders .were Sterri tt,
Hill , Dou gh erty, Ea rd ley a nd Sto tt le ,
That 's also how the first 125cc Expert
moto went in the record books.

Expert moto on Satu rday got a bit of a
su r p r ise when n ation ally ran ked p ro
rid er Chris topher C ossela ar lined up on
the concre te start pad . Word from th e
tow er prior to the start was that no on e
wa s su re if it w as actua lly Cosse laa r
who was ra cin g th e last 125cc Exp ert
mot a . When the ga te d ropped and the
pa ck ro u nded the first turn, ther e was

pretty mu ch no doubt that the lead ing
Honda was being piloted by Cosselaar.
Rounding out the top five were Sterritt,
Hill, Jarrett Rhodes a nd Stottle. By the
end of the seco nd lap, local favorite Paul
Carpenter was -in thir d . Cosselaar had a
seven-second advantage by the start of
lap three. Halfway through the lap , Co sselaar's front tire washed out in the turn
preceding the finish-line double and
Gossela ar we nt down, allowin g a
patient Hill to take the lead. Round ing
out the top five were Ca rpenter, Gosselaar, Sterritt an d Dougherty.
Ca rpenter closed the gap on Hill but
co u ld n ' t ge t a round h im . Cosse laar
we nt down again in the sa me turn on
the last lap and rem ounted fifth . H ill
managed to hold Carpenter off and take
the secon d -mote win . Traili ng were Carpenter , Sterrill, Dou gh ert y a nd Cosselaar. Hill earned the ove rall with his 2-1
