Hamilton was d esp erate ly pressuri ng Cumbo
for second place. Cumbo used the added ponies
of hi s RPM' s/Too Tech-backed YZ to hold off
Hamilton at th e checkers. Ha milton's 2-3 wa s
go od eno ugh for second over al l. Ncumucller
took third overall, with a 3-4.

comfo rtab le lead for the overall honors. The real
action was the battl e for the second through fifth
spots between jacques Ge rman, Kip Co ntre ras
a nd Rick Tatlow .
In mota one, German, Contreras a nd Ta rlow
were ru nning so close tha t the y cou ld ha ve been
covered. by a blanket. The trio excha nged position.s several times , but at the checkers it was the
KTM of German taki ng second, with Tatl ow and
Contreras in tow .
In mota two, it was all Willis, as he took the
hol eshot a nd th e un contest ed victory. Once
again, Germa n and Con tre ras we re involved in a
dogfigh t. Tatlow went d own in the first tu m and
did not finish . John Rizzo reb ound ed fro m a
mid pack start to join the battle for seco nd place.
The last -lap running orde r was Willis, German,
Contrera s a nd Rizzo, un til YZ-moun ted. Cont reras made his move , d ispla cing Germ an to third
at the chec kers .
Ge rma n won the war, with his 2-3 bes ting
Contreras' 4-2 on the day, for seco nd and third
overall .
