kept his big Triumph twin on the boil to take the
w in ove r the curre nt Pro Twins point lead er,
XR750-mounted Dallas Babcock, a t round se ven
of the VDTRA All-Star.; National - w hich was also
the eighth annual Randy OL'CkMemorial race - at
the O klaho ma Ci ty Fairgrounds Speedway.
Gi bson made his move ea rly on the Sl.'COnd
la p to unseat Babcock from the lead , and began
to pu ll away. Though Babcock reeled him back
in at th e m idpoint, he cou ld get no cloSer by th e
·time they cam e to th e fina l flag o n the se ve nth
lap. Running in third. Bill Snyd er co ntin ued his
consisten t s tring of top-th ree Pro finis hes. Jac
Don ald a lso mad e a good showing. as di d Allan
Moriart y, filling out the top five spots.

fourth.
Pro 600cc rider Steve N ichols put his newly
cons tructed TPR Yamaha sin gle across the finis h
line first in his main event after the early lead of
Kris Armentrout end ed o n the fourth lap with a
fla t front tire. Armentrout had lx-cn flying a ll
day, winning his hea t ra ce, and he looked to be
the m a n to bea t befo re h is stroke of bad luck.

fourth- a nd fifth -p laced riders Russell Briggs
and current Open Twi n points leader Ken Slota
came together in turn three, sending Slota in to
the Tuff blocks at speed. Slota wa s tra nsported
to the hospita l wi th a shoulder injury; Briggs
was able to make the restart. On lap two of th e
second start, Leo Osa ntowski and Bill Stephens
came to gether in tum three as well, sending
both riders int o the Tuff blocks. Th ou gh bo th
were unhurt, Osantowskr's machine w as unable
to continue, leaving Stephens to s tart fro m the
las t spot in si ng le file.' Start number three wa s
the charm, wi th Bob Snyder ta king the point o ut
of hann's wa y. followed by Briggs and Earl E.
Smith Jr. By lap fo ur, howe ve r, Stephens had
worked his way to the lead pack. a nd he got by
Smith for third . At th e ch eckered flag. it wa s
Snyder. Briggs, Stephens, Smith and Ron Sto ne
in the top five pos itions.

In the Over 40 Expert class. Mike Altenhofel,
with his bulldog charging style. took a clean
sweep for the overall win. AltenhofeJ is o ne of
the fastest 40 -year-old s .a ro u n d , a nd he is
untouchable a t Perris week after week.
In the Over 40 Beginner class, Remy Pamintuan won both motos to win the overa ll, with
Chuck Norris in second and Marco Valdovinos
finishi ng third . In the Over 30 Beginner class,
Scott Brown used co ns istency to win the overall.
scoring a 1-2. and Steve Sidwell placed second
ove r a ll. Despi te winning the s eco n d moto,
George Harris finished third.
