Team owner Chuck Warren deci ded to restart the team 's backup bike that had bee n pra cti ced as a poss ib le seco nd A rcl igh t e n try, but t h e id e a was sc ra p ped w he n e lec t r ica l g re m li ns emerged . Appare ntly the problem ha d spread to the firs t Arclight bike as we ll, and the first 10 minutes for A rcl ig h t wou ld be erased fro m th e books. As soo n as Batey w a s in th e p its , Chr is Hu gh es took to th e track on the second Arcligh t bike. Semoff Brothe rs was d isappearing out front , an d th e battle for the lead in th e M ed iu m w ei gh t Su pe rbi ke ra ce , be tween Army of Darkness and Ta pewo rks , was going bac k and forth eve ry lap . Pen n Sta te was firmly locked in to second ov era ll and first in the Heavyweight Superstock class wh en the bike ran o u t of ga s a nd h ad to be pu sh ed back from the back section of the track, ha nd ing second to the charging 1-800CROTCH-ROCKE T Suzu ki GSX-R750. By the en d of the fir s t h our, SBR h a d lapped the enti re field, includ ing 1-800CROTC H-ROC KET in second and t he Ca na d ia n te a m o f Cy cl e Speed o n another Yamaha YZF R-l in third . Tapewo rks managed to ge t thro ugh tr a ffic better th an Army of Dark nes s, and th ey built a sm all 20-seco nd lead w h en th e first re d fla g of th e d a y s to p ped racing actio n at nine m in utes into the seco nd hour. Th e Honda CBR600 of Team HM R wa s lying in the track, and the corne r wo rkers needed the race track to be em pty to re mov e the bike from the su rface. Arclight Suzuki fou nd themselves in the very unfamiliar territory of 34th place at the red flag, nine laps behind Sem off Brothers Racing. After a 25-minute d elay to remo ve th e fa lle n bike and rid er, the race was restarted, and SBR bolted away ag ain. Putting in a . great ride at an unfamiliar track was the Heavyw eig ht Supers tock team, 0&0 Ra ci n g, wh o h ad w on the la st three Heavyweigh t Superstock races in a row and had moved up to eighth place overall by the end of the second hour. Also on the mo ve wa s Summit Point' s own Team Clinton Cycles, on a Suz uki GSXR600 Supe rbike. They wo rked their way in to th e seco nd -overall posit ion, th ree laps beh ind race leaders Sem off Brothers, at the beginning of th e th ird hou r. Dar k clouds rolled in late in the fou rhour ra ce a n d threaten ed rai n . Mos t local riders we re unsure of the amou nt of tr acti o n th at would b e avai la ble if rain fe ll so late in the ra ce, w hile th e ma jority of the ne wco me rs were downright frighten ed by pa st tales of woe that hav e sp read thr ou g h th e pa ddock . A light ra in began to fall 20 minu tes before the s chedu led e nd of th e r a ce, a n d WERA officials deci ded not to take any cha nces and thr ew the re d flag to stop th e race. There was some d eba te as to whether or not to allow team s to mount ra in ti res and resta rt th e ra ce, but in end u ra nce racing , the clock never stops, and th e field would remain in the pi ts for the last few minutes of the eve nt. SBR wo n th eir th ird Pirell i Heavyweig ht Superbike and ove rall class win in a row, ahead of the Texas-based 1800-CROTCH-ROC KET team , on ly two lap s hack a t th e finis h . Matt Ford was the luck y wi nner of a ne w he lmet of his choice, and he gave it to his cous in. Matt than ked his gr and parents for bein g his best spons ors. In th e- o pening 250cc C m ot o, Dan Bass roun d ed the first corner wit h the lead on his Suzu ki. Troy Schroeder, on his Fan ta rn-s po nsored Kawasaki, was second . Palmer was in third . Matt Ford wa s h oo ked u p in fo urth . Sch roeder took o ver the lead in th e Sandbox area but Bass retoo k the lead ov er th e Pro Action Tunnel jump with more momen tum w hen Schroeder o ve rjump ed th e tunnel and almost crashed . Palmer got: his H ond a in front in the woods rocke rs, ove rpowering Bass. Th e ru nning ord er . at the en d of th e first lap wa s Pa lm er, Bas s , Schroeder, Fo r d a n d Red Bu d track man Robert Mills. Palmer exten ded his lead as the moto p ro gressed . Bass held d own th e nu mber-two spot. Third was taken over by Ford w hen he passed Schroede r in the Sandbo x on the third lap. The best race was for th e fifth spo t, featuring a four-ride r freigh t train with Mills as th e en gin e and Burger, Pau l Ran sier an d Todd Ja mes th e ca rs a nd the caboose. Palm er came ho me w it h the wi n . Bass took second , w ith Ford s tro ng in third. The second-mo to holes ho t wen t to Sch roeder, w ith Jam es , Be rger , Fo rd, Palm er and 'Bass follo wi ng .. Schroeder kep t the lead , b u t Pa lm er was o n the mov e, passing bo th Ford and Berger in th e Sand box area. Palmer th en caug ht Schroeder and za pped him in the Sandbox on lap two.
