SUPERTT The Super IT is similar to the Superbikers eve n ts fea tured o n A BC Wid e World of Spor ts in th e late '70s a n d early '80s, and the Supermotard eve nts that are popular in Europe toda y. Donn er Ski Ranch proprietor a n d even t organizer Norm Saylor was looking for some thing to replace the motocross and YSR races that they ran la st year and wanted to keep a ll th e events within walking distance of the parking and lodge. "We got to talking wit h Don (Caner) on the Su per Tf thing and it came abo u t th at th ey were look in g for some thing that wo uld be this size track beca use it kind of invo lved the upcomi ng rou nd in France, which is an indoor eve nt wit h a sma ll size track." This made for so me of the closest racing of the weekend. The course , which started with a clockwise half oval in the parking lot, sw itched di rections quickly with a hairpin left hander. Then into a narrow paved (still paved) right hander that swep t around the back of the lod ge, making a hard blind righ t int o the dirt sec tio n. The dirt sec tion was all turns, mostl y downhill and very loose, endi ng w ith a h ard right h and er in to a d irt ju mp with a p aved landing pu ttin g the racers back on the front straigh t and the star t /finis h line. Th ou gh it was one of the sho rtes t cou rses of the 5TIAR series, wi th lap times under 40 seconds, it pro-. vided for so me excitin g racing action for the specta tors watch ing from all around th e co u rse and from the d eck o f th e lod g e a bove . Road Ra cer and Cycl e World Magazine race editor, Don Canet, organized and raced in rou nd ten of the STTARS C hampio nship series. Thi s event was also round two of thr ee in the Triple Crow n Series. The top p oin ts earner in the Premie r and Midd lewe ight classes of this series will qualify to go to the Gu idon d'Or (Golde n Han dlebar) to . be held in France in January (past wi nners of the eve nt include Edd ie Lawson and Wayne Rainey) . . After p ra ct ice and h eat races, th e main events s tarted wi th the Knobbi es and then the XRlOO classes . These classes, d esigned for a low cos t entry into this form of racing, also make for some pretty exciting racing. Th e Sportsman Cla ss had the crowd on its feet as the fath er and son duo of Allen and Casey Yarrow diced it out for the en tire race, with father Allen finall y taking the win . In the Middleweight class, Brok McAllister took the checkered flag, and went on to trophy in the hillclimb on Sunday. The Pr emi er Class probably sa w th e most co m pe titive ra cin g. After ge tting th e h oleshot an d led for several laps, series orga n izer a n d current Pr emier Class points leader Don Ca net fell at the en trance to the dirt sec tio n, killing his engine and even tua lly losing two lap s to the pack trying to res tart. Over on the Dirt Hill climb, ace ascender Trav is Whit lock (right) con tested five classes and won three.
