Fast Fridays Speedway

For the second week in a row, and the th ird time
in the 1999 A&S DMW / Pas t Fridays Speedway
season, Cha rlie 'The Edge" Venegas topped the
fiel d to win the night's most im porta nt race, the
Scratch ma in event. Rose Racing 's Jim my Stsemore wo n the Handicap mai n .
The Hand icap mai n sta rted out wit h Robert
Curry lining up on the 2Q-yard line, Chad Felicio
on the 30 and Jimm y Sisem ore on the 40. Problems arose for SO-yard sitters Charlie Ven egas
an d Bart Bast, wh o we re both assessed a n additional 10 vards on consecutive res tarts when referee Joh~ Grant caugh t them a llegedly rolling
forwa rd before the start . On the fourth try , the
Main fina lly got under way, and Curry assu med
the ini tial lead. Felicio mai n tai ned second an d
Sisemore follow ed in third. Mike Faria a ttacked
the sketChy o utsi de d irt line but failed to ma ke
up any gro und on the leaders when he failed to
find the tracti on he needed to drive toward the
front . Venega s and Bast started too far rock in
turn three to have much effect on the o utcome.
For the first two laps, the running order of
Curry, Felicia, Sisemo re, Fa ria, Venega s and
Bast didn't change. At the halfway point, Sisemore suddenly came to life, pushing inside Felicia and into second place. Curry con tin ued to
lead the way past the white flag and down the
rock straight, with Sisemore right on his tail. In
the fina l se t of turns, Sise more o u ts piced th e
franti c Curry a nd took the win by a half ,1 hike
len gth. Cu rry hel d on to th e runner·up spo t,
third went to Felicia, a nd Fa ria , Venegas a nd
Bast claimed the final thr ee spo ts.

Bast, who had the misfortu ne of starti ng from
the slick lane-three groove, ca me ou t of the box
trailing a nd went after the lead ers o n the outside. Hedden d idn't ge t the sta rt he wanted
and d espite pushing his fro n t tire up close to
Fari a a cou p le of tim es in the ea rly goi ng, he
was never in a position to be a fact or in the o ut·
come . Meanwhile, Bast wa s getting more o ut of
the ou tside d irt tha n Faria ha d in the Hand icap
main, a nd af ter Faria bo bbled sligh tly o n la p
