former O ve r 40 ra cer Jim Bracy. who pa ssed
a way from a heart attack one year ag o.

Mot o two saw Jud nick again nail do wn the
start as a few riders were caugh t in a first-t ur n
pileu p, inclu d ing Robertson an d Bennett. This
time, Brough ton was in second off the start and
proc eeded to red in and eve ntu ally pass.Judnick
for the mota win . Second place in the mota was
good enough for Judn ick to claim th e overall.

class, Brett O hla nd gra bbed th e ea rly lead in
front of John Oehn on his KX80 and the rest of
the 13-rider pa ck, Oh land led the race until the
wh ite flag. and then he started. to slid e all over
the track with a flat tire. Dehn glad ly took over
the lead as Ohland nursed the bike on the final
lap to take sixth at the finish. Behind Dehn was
Scott Ehl en fe ldt , w it h Jeremy Girard thi rd ,
Spe ncer Dally fou rt h and James Easler fifth. For
mota tw o, O hland found some a ir and a fresh
tub e fo r h is ba ck t ire and ca me out w it h a
veng ean ce, nai ling the holesh ot by sneaking past
Ehl en fe ld t in tu m one. Dehn moved into second
on the first la p, but with the overall in hand, he
d idn' t p re s s O hl a nd to o hard fo r th e le a d .

was good eno ug h for third ove ra ll, Deh n took
second in the mot e, for the overall win. Ehlen feldt, Easler, Girard an d Dally rounded out the
top six.

the Over 30 A and 250cc Open C classes , respectively, at a regu lar District 6 poin ts race hosted
by Tom Hurd Promotions at the Hurricane Hills
Sports Cen ter . Jus t fewer than 250 racers signed
up to race the 25 classes slated for the day's progra m. Racers were treated to a bea utiful sum me r
d.1Y and the best tra ck cond itions of the seaso n.
Temperatures in th e mid 70s and a nice breeze
mad e for a truly enjoya ble d ay,
Boyesen abs conded with the ho leshot in the

Gia mbra. [ames Fische r. Mark Pillion and Doug
Henry. Pillion passed Fisher on la p three to take
third , dropping Fish er to fourth , Shortly after
Pilli on moved up to th ird , he pulled off w it h
appa ren t m echa n ical p robl em s . Boyesen was
gone by the end of lap three wit h a Zll-seccnd
lead , and he tri pled. for the crowd a t the chec kered flag . The mot a went in the books as Boye sen, Gia mbra . Fisher and Henry.

until the last lap, when Deem ie passed Heras for
fourth. Boccadori too k the checkers with a 16second lead . Tra iling him were Matthew s, OTt,

rain broke ou t. The CMRA usualJv runs severa l
races befo re lunch. and the fo recas t called for the
ra in to stop shor tl y . Most ra cers held off on
m ounting rain ti res in th e hope th at th e track
would be dry by race time.
Due toa shortened practice ses sion caused
by a lengthy cras h and the ensuing clean -u p, the
three YSR-based classes and the Light weight
Vintage con test were run in a sing le race. With
ligh tning in the background , the ra ce got under
way with Todd Gyure and his Lightweight Vintage entry going into turn one first.
By the end of the first lap, th e misnumbered
YSR of Joh n Farri ng ton wa s leading th e pa ck.
Also on a YSR, Darin Coo ley muscled into the
lead halfw ay throu gh the race and finished less
th an ha lf a second a he ad of Gyure, who ha d
moved back up to finish seco nd ove ra ll, first in
class, Robert Brothe rs, on his XLl O , found that
O
flat-tracking does indeed work in the rain , and
he placed third overall, seco nd in class .
With the d elay from practice, the rem ainin g
races were shortened to six lap s. The second ra ce
o f th e d a y was Me d ium wc ight Superstock
Novice, and a full grid lined up to take the sta rt.
Jim Bishop gra bbed the boles hot, but going into
tum one, a huge pack of riders was fighting for
th e lead . Bishop pulled out a comfortable lead
early in the race, but Adam Coco was moving up
fast. At the halfway ma rk, Coco was nose to tail
with Bishop. Pushing his bike to the fastest lap of
the race at 1:45.79 was too mu ch, how ever, and
Coco crashl-d in the slippe ry tum fIve on the fIfth
lap . aUowing Bishop to cruise to a n easy win.
Some 28 seco nds beh ind him , Sco tt FIsher inher·
ited second , whi le Josh Meeks picked up th ird ,

about Ty Howard . Howa rd was la te to the start ,
and he had to begin the race from the pits. Sam
McDonald took ad vantag e of the situa tion and
trk'ti to run away on his Yama ha R6, whi le Scott
Lind sa y tossed himself off before makin g a compl ete lap. McDonald had th e field fa r beh ind
him on lap tw'o, but Howard wa s on a ram page.
Howar d wa s cha rging his way throug h the field ,
and on lap thr ee posted a 1:29,40 lap time while
chasing McDon ald . How ard mad e his pass on
lap fou r and quickly began to stretch his lead,
On the next lap, Howard already had five bike
lengths on McDonald, and finished more than
seve n secon ds ahead, raisin g both arms in victory as he crossed the finish line. The race for third
was a three- man battle betw'een Harry Tomli nson , Sco tt Crawford and Darre n Behm, w ith
Tomlinson victorious .

Whe n the racers lined up for the start of the
first moto, Honda rid er Wayne Wells snagged
the holesh ol. Cu rt Jabl on ski shoved hi s CR250
into seco nd , w hile KTM rid er Scott Mays pos itioned him self in th ird , Roark held d own fou rt h,
an d Allen McKay rod e in fifth as the racers compl eted the firs t cir cu it. Roark wa s was ting no
tim e, pi cking off Ma ys on the seco nd la p and
th en Jab lon ski th e ne xt ti me arou nd to move
into seco nd place. Wells offered little resistan ce
to Roark's YZ400F, a nd Roark shot by the lead er
just past the halfway ma rk to assume the point.
Roark immed iately stretched out a three-second
lead , Mea nw hi le, Mays pus hed hi s KTM pas t
Ja blo ns ki to ass ume the ~ird s pot and then
started inching closer to Wells toward the en d of
the ra ce. Roark rode in first for the mot o w in.
Wells took the runner-up slot , whil e Mays ran
ou t of time a nd settl ed for third ,

th ird . Greg Whitfield positi on ed his CR500 in
fourt h, an d McKay held fifth as the pack came
ou t of the back canyo n for the first time. Roark
d ispatched Mays straig ht awa y and then moved
in on Wells. The next time the racers head ed into
the back section, Roa rk was in st.."Cond, but when
th ey re-emerged , he had the lead a nd a fiv ebike-lengt h cushion. Wells wa s still comfu rta bly
in fron t of Mays, who rem ai ned co nsiste nt in
th ird . Roark, wh o appea red un affe cted by th e
heat and hu mid ity, used the rest of the moto to
ru n a clinic on savvy line selection and smooth _
riding, as he 'continua lly stretched his lead until
'COnd ad vant age on Wells. When
he had a lO-St.
th e chec kers ca me ou t, Roark was first . Well s
finis hed u p in se co n d , and Ma y s was a ga in
third . The overall res u lts on the d ay looked like
a carbon copy of the seco nd -mota finishes, as
