Events 22nd annual Good Times National Cole Brown (568) gets the jump in the first 125cc Expert moto ahead of Robbie McQuary (413), Adam Montoya (20), Mark Thompson (41) and the rest of the pac k at the Good Times Nationals at M osier Valley USA. Everyone kn ow s that along w ith top-not ch racing action, most Texas Na tio na ls bring th eir fair sha re of rain y weather, and this year was no exc ep tio n . Riders who have spent hours practicin g in th e rain a nd mud whil e their buddies were high and dry at hom e could proudly join the ranks of the best mud racers in the nation. . Continuing h is stra ngleho ld on th e minibike ranks, Morri s, Oklahoma 's Colt Humphrey sho wed he could run in the mud as he earn ed perfect scores in both the Mini Stock and Mod 14-16, and the Mini Open, adding three national titles to hi s resume . Th e Hond a of Houston / Th or /Dunlop -ba cked Humphrey' s run at a fourth title was spoiled in the l 00cc event by LCS/GS MXS-West' s Waylon McCulloch of San Antonio, who wo n this titl e w i th 1-2 m ot o s. Te am G re en 's Nathan Davenport of Wiggins, Mississippi, clinched second place with 3-1 motos, Humphrey's 2-3 finish earned him third overall in his fourth event. Oklahoma n Ch ase Reed also prov ed his dexterity in the Texas mud as his perfect scores earned him titles in the 12Sec Schoolboy, 125cc and 250cc Mod B classes . Ori ginally en tered in five cla sses, a hard crash in the second event on Satu rda y's program , the 125 Stock B class, rend ered Reed unable to finish that race. The incident also scratched Reed from Satur da y's 250 Stock B event. However, Sun: da y morning found Reed back at the gate, read y to race. Spo nsore d by Cen tra l Yamaha, No Fear, LCS and FMF, Reed charged hard in each event and won his motos with more-than-l O-second margins of victory. In Schoolboy co m peti tio n , Team Green / Rat Racin g / Cl ear Lak e Kawasaki-backed Justin Smith held down second place un challen ged . The hott est battle in this event was for third . Kawasaki jockey Joe Bailey fought for position in both mot os with CR rider Der ek Kemp and Washington State transplant J.J. Peesok, on a YZ. Kem p came ou t strong bu t ran into trouble in the mud, squeaking his way into the top 10 wit h 17-5 motos. Bailey and Pecsok, however, ran bar to bar in both mo tos until Bailey spun out in the mud in the final corner before the finish line in mot o two, giving third to Pecsok, Bailey's quick reflexes kept him in fourth, however. YZ-powered Chance Staggs rounded ou t the top five in Schoo lboy. After Reed 's untimely cra sh in the firs t 12SecStock Intermediate rnoto, Thousand Oaks Yamaha /Fox's Johnny M arl ey made up his mind to take .home this title, and his big effort paid off with solid dual moto wins . Reed came back stro ng in Sunday' s 125cc Modified contest, as his LCS-po wered Yamaha once again brou ght hom e tw o a ces. "Ex plos ive" d es cr ib es th e actio n in the war for second p lace, as NTY/ Silkolene/ MSR/ Pro Circu it-spo n" sored Beau Boynton dueled wi th Marley. In mot o one, Marley held off Boynton , but in mo ta two , Boynton was on a mission, and the two Yamahas diced it up wi th razor-sharp precision . Boynton, on fire, pu shed his YZ to the ed ge as he ou tmaneuvered Marley to the checkers. . Keeping with the perfect-score theme, Plan o Honda / JM Racin g /FMF's Travis Elliott earn ed doubl e titles, winning the 125cc and 250cc Expert classes. Moto one of the 12Sec Expert gate had GSMSX/ Bou lder Yamaha's Co le Brown of Natalia, Texas, ou t front with the lead, but Elliott whittled away at his rear fend er on the early la ps. Brown charged the track hard , but Elliott's determi nation won out as he took over the controls on the whiteHag lap . In moto two, North Texas Yamaha / Wi seco-b ack ed Ma rk Thompso n nailed the holeshot and went supersonic as Elliott applied pressure from behind. Thompson and Elliott left the other pro riders as they ran seven laps of heart-stoppin g race action . Thompson an d Elliott diced for the lead , shaving rubber off each other's rear tires, until Thompson, in the lead , oversho t a corner in the woods in lap five. Elliott jum ped ah ead as Thompson focused Elliott one last time in his cross hairs. On the white-flag lap, Thompson throttled hard to cut Elliott's four-second lead down to two and was still closing in on the leader at the checkers, " Ell io tt was to u gh ," Tho m p so n rem arked after the race. "I thou ght I had him u nt il I overshot tha t berm in the woods and Elliott got past me. I knew I was catching him afte r tha t, and if there wa s one more lap, I think I could have gotten the lead back." In the 250cc Expert con test, Elliott repeated his I -I score. The mud wa s a majo r obstacle in moto on e, but Ellio tt pushed forward, winning with an 18-second lead . Plano Ho nda -backed Michael Peacock and Thompson du eled for second in the mud. Peacock threw in a few s trong b locks to keep Thompson a t ba y a nd earned second in moto one for his efforts. In rnoto tw o, Thompson jumped out of the ga te and nailed the holeshot, with Plano Honda' s Bryan Piccirelli joining the earl y battle for the lead . Elliott, who fl ew a rou n d the first corner in six th pl a ce, fought to g-et around Nichols - Su zu ki / FMF-sp onsored Nic k Met calf. Midrace, Ellio tt moved up to challenge Piccirelli in bar-t o-bar midfield ac tio n. Ge tting pa st Piccirelli on lap four, Elliott focus ed on reeling in Thompson. O n lap five, Elliott closed the ga p but lost several seconds when he hit a kicker in the wood s. Hitting the throttle hard, Elliott ca ugh t a n d p ass ed Thom pson in th e hol eshot co rner on th e white-flag lap and led to the checkers. Wendell Sim mo ns and his daughter Chelsea, of Kentwood , Louisian a, were th e fas tes t famil y a t th e Good Tim es Nation al. Backed by Moshpit Racing and Gi nger 's Ad s & No ve l ties , Wend ell claim ed h is two titl es in th e Over 30 Expert and Over 35 ga tes. Following in her d addy' s foot steps, yo ung Ch elsea wo n dual titles in the Pee Wee 50cc contest w it h I -I m ot os a nd in th e Teen y Mini Mod ified (4-6) class. In the Teeny Mini Modified , Che lsea powered her KTM to a 2-1 finish , taking the title.away from mota one's wi nner, KTM-mounted Dillon Van Way of Lafayette, Louisiana. Also ea rn ing his stripes in the mud, Riley Kurosky had the winning ticket in th e Mi ni (12-13) ranks. LCS/ Answer/ GKP's Kurosky won his titles in the Mini Stock and Modified divisions. In the Stock di vision , Kurosk y (w ho went 2-1) was chased by Bryan Zachary, who step ped up to the plate in moto two and chased Kuro sky to the finish line. Zac hary's 4--2 tall y netted him secon d overall. Mot o one's winne r, Lance Hollister, received a DNR in moto two. In Sund ay's Modi fied even t, Ku ro sk y w on his tit le with 1-2 motos, battling with Hollister, wh o earned second overall with 4--1 motos. The final tw o -ti tIe racer wa s Pro Action / FMF/ WCA 's o Jose ph Ma rburger of Mesquite, Texas. Marburger's first title was earned in the Mini Mini Stock (6-8) event, in whic h it was decided that only one m ot o wou ld b e ru n, du e to the muddy cond itions.
