Th e 50cc Se n io r cla ss sho wcased a ha rd - fo u g ht battl e a ll the way, a n d w he n th e dust settled, Eva n Aro nso n had th e w in , foll owed by James Beach and Johnny Cooper Ill. John Lew is got th e h o leshot in th e 65cc Mod ified featu re and held the lead until th e si xth lap, w hen a ri d er went d own o n th e ba ckstret ch , bringing ou t the red flag and end ing th e race. Travis Myer s a nd Schwa rze nbacher waged a side-by-side battle over second for most of the six la ps and that's how they finis hed, with Myer s taking seco nd ove r Schwarzenbacher . . Cory McDermitt go t th e ho leshot in the 125cc Modified feature and led fo r the firs t few la ps while Cu m mings , who didn' t ge t th e best s ta r t, charged up throug h the pa ck to take th e lead and the win. McDermitt held on for second, ahead of Ryan Brothers. Aft er the fin ish, it wa s announced that the kids ran one lap at 94 mph. The last event of the day was the 85cc Mod ified for 7- to l l-y ea r-o ld s , and Blak e Young w on the eve n t. Nichole Ch eza stayed clo se to Young and took the lead late in the race, o nly to have Young draft pa st her a t th e finish line. Carter Myers took the third spot. Mond ay featu red Group Two, and the first even t of th e da y w as th e 600cc Modified class . Tony Meiring got the h o le sh o t and led until th e halfwa y p o int. Br ya n Smith , wh o h ad b e en ca m pe d in M eiring 's draft , we n t a ro u nd M ei rin g to take a s lig ht lead, w h ich he held to the fin ish . M eirin g took second, about a bik e len gth back, fo llo wed b y St eve Murra y, ab out a straighta way back. A g ro u p of five riders engaged in a war of their own ov er fifth place, with William Co uvelis w in nin g th at battle. Th e next eve n t was th e 250cc DTX feature, an d again Tony Meiring go t the hol eshot and th e ea rl y lead . Meir in g, Josh Toun g ett. and St e ve Murra y sw a p ped the lead back and forth for the enti re race, w ith Toungett getti ng th e win over Meiring and Murray. Next up was th e Ov er 40 Open d ivis io n , a nd Ca n a da ' s Ro yal A d der son immedia tely opened up a l O-b ike lead go ing d own the backstretch. Behind h im , Dave Atherton and Stev e Wilson fou ght over second place. A therton di sposed of Wilson and reeled in Adderson a t the halfway point to lead for sev eral laps until the end , when Adder son go t a break goin g through the backmarkers to take the w in. Atherton go t seco nd, wi th Wilson third, abo ut a straighta way back. Charlie ltalia owned th e 250cc Modifi ed feature, ge ti ng the holeshot a n d go ing w ire to w ire for h is win . K.C. "Coyote" Knodel and McDermitt diced o ve r se co nd place ea rly, with Kn od el taking the spot. McDermitt go t third . The n ext fea ture was th e Over 2 1 Twins class, and Royal Adderson go t a g rea t s tart and th e early lead. Glascon Stev en r e eled in Adderson b y th e halfway point and held on for his first wi n, with Adderson a close second and Brian Hewson third. Next up was the 500cc Modified feature, and Smith w orked his wa y into the lead on th e fir st la p and nev er look ed back. Smith took the win over "Coyote" Knodel and Mike Crieff, d ecid ed to let th e g ro u p .coc l d ow n while ano ther even t wa s ru n before let tin g them return to th e track. When the O ver 30 class returned to the tra ck, Butler again got the holeshot an d the ea rl y lea d until the m idway point. Glasgon Stevens reeled him in , and the pair ba ttled over firs t place until the last lap, w hen an o ve rhea ted rear tire se nt Butl er up ou t of th e groove in turn two, le ttin g Steve ns an d Dante Dambruoso ge t by. Butl er saved it and held on for third . Wh en th e 250cc 'P ro -Sp o r t feat u re ca me to th e li ne, Ro ge r Lee H a yd en took over .the lead on the back stre tch and led the ea rly laps. Jo hn Spinelli go t the lea d b riefly at m idrace, but Hayden found a higher lin e th ro u gh tu rn s one a n d two a nd re took th e lea d fo r th e (Right) Charlie ltal ia do minated th e half mile and mile events in t he 2S0cc Modif ied class at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The Over 30 Open class featu re took severa l tries to co m ple te. On the 'firs t start, Mike Butl er got the holesh o t and a bout a 12-bike lead, o nly to see a red flag as Ch ris Hathawa y never go t put on th e starting lin e. Th e restart saw Butler get the ho leshot and the lead, only to see another red flag as Gene Atherton w ent d own in tum one and flew over th e hay. bal es. Afte r several anxious m oments, Ath er ton walked aw ay from th e cras h, and th e rid ers lined up agai n. Th is time the start wa s pretty ragged, and it wa s w in . Spinelli took second, foll owed by Dan Bond. The last event of the evening was the 600cc Pro Sport fea tu re . H a yden checked o u t ea rl y fo r th e w in .
