Ron Turner won the Senior Expert class during rou nd three of the Yamaha Dealer Series at Glen Helen Raceway Park. By the end of lap one, i t wa s Maxwell, Turner, Roes eler and Sta ten in firs t through fifth . Turner squeezed by Ma xw ell on la p two to take the lead . Turner smoothly negotiated the rest of the track to the finish line . As in mot o one, most of th e crowd was wa tc hing th e b att le b etween Ma xw ell and Roeseler. Maxwell stayed stro ng and managed to keep Roeseler at bay to the finish . "Roeseler was on me hard : ' Maxwell lat er ad m itted. "O ne mi sta ke a nd h e wo uld have been by me: ' " I was just tr y in g to pressure h im and hopefull y he'd kn ow my presence and make a little bobble;' said Roeseler, "He rod e better that last moto. Roesel er matched Maxwell tum for tum for four laps until the white flag came out. Then, unexpect ed ly, Ma xw ell pulled off the track and Roeseler cru ised past him for third. During the last lap, Ma xw ell 's fro n t-bra ke caliper shea red a pin and cam e off. " It pulled the brake lin e ou t," sa id Maxwell. " It started flinging the brake line into the spokes, makin g me very nervous." At the finish line, Turner admitted that he had been disa ppoi nted wi th his start. "I messed u p on the start," he said. '1 usually ge t the holesh ot." State n admitted he has a way to go to ge t back into peak physica l shape. "I was going to quit;' said Staten. "I wasn't eve r goi ng to rid e again. I deci d ed to han g it u p in ovember. Then John Burr Cycles as ked me to ride one of thei r bikes. They told me they'd give me a bike, so I said, 'Okay, I'll try it: It's bee n tough getting back in shape. My arms gel all pumped up. I missed a shift in the first tum - thou ght I was going to get rear-e nd ed . Oversho t the corner d own there twice." Stroker / Dunlop Tire-sponsored Roeseler was in great spirits at bein g at the track, hanging out with friends. "I'm just out her e having some fun ," said Roeseler , "Honda/Yamaha of Redlands are friends, and they invited me to come out. I'm jus t glad I had a day free." Bou lware was pleased wit h his sta rt, if no t with his showing. "I just couldn't han g with those guys," he said . "I've been doing a lot of desert races, a nd I'm not u sed to the jumps. Some of the jumps here are tou gh." On the starting line befo re moto two, Staten looked over at Turner and sai d, "I' ve go t to ge t that guy." Tu rne r just smiled .
