Events took home the 250cc Pro purse after placing Sl."Cend in the first moto and then thi rd in the second moto. Though he had a rocky time in the 250cc Pro contest, Motow orld's Andy Harri ngton was the overa11125cc Pro with a pair of moto wins. In the first 250 Pro moto, Tim Beatty took his SMP / Pro Prept Suzuki into turn one a head of the pack. Beatty held the position for tw o laps whi le fcn di ng off the advances of Mike Cra ig. On la p three, Cra ig took the lead wit h a qu ick move inside Beatty on a left-bander just after the whoop> . Once out front , Craig established himself by pulling out a five-second lead . The action heat ed up fo r sec o n d, as Beatt y had Todd Mit ch ell and An gel o lngrande p ressuring his every move. Mitchell, aboard his One/JT / Tagsponsored Suzuki, managed to take the second spot early on, but Beatty came back on the nex t la p . The Alba /FMF/P ro Prept /SMP SuzukiSponsored Ingran dc stayed within str iking distance but had to settle for fou rth at the checkered . Tim Beatty had the holesho t and Craig was up front go ing into turn one, bu t he got push ed to fifth before coming ou t of the turn. Ingrande grabbed the second spot. and Mit ch ell and Ha rr ington were a ll over eac h other. Craig drop ped hi s Kawa saki back in the wa sh section and lost 20 seco nds' before returning to the battle. Ingrand e used the wa sh section to his advantage on lap three and took the lead from Beatty Harri ngton was in third and all over Beatty, whil e Tod d Mitchell wa s keeping pa ce in fourth.. Harrington was trying every inch of the track to put a move on Beatty, and on the last lap Harrington closed in with just tw o turns to go in the moto .. Beat ty went wide and Harrington came across his line, causi ng Beatty to run off the track. Althou gh th e re w ere n o tripl e event winne rs, several rid e rs went hom e fro m th e series as do uble event cha m ps . Reed won his series cha mpions hips in the 125cc a nd 250cc In term ed iat e a nd th e 125cc a nd 250cc Open eve nts . Ama teur Reed demonstrated hi s wi n ning edge in mota one of t h e co m bined 250cc Pro / Intennediate ga te. R Ct.. cha rged hard ou t -d of the ga te and took the holes hot awa y from the six Pros and two other Amateurs contesting this eve nt. Centra l Yamaha /No Fea r / LCS-bac ked Reed maintained his stranglehold on the lead as he finished moto one with a fou r-seco nd ma rgin of vi ctory over Pro rid er Tr a vi s Elliott. The hott est action in the mot o was be hin d Reed , as Pro riders Elliott, Bra d Woolsey a nd Ma rk Thompson waged their ow n wa r over the num ber-one Pro spot. Ellio tt and Woolsey charged the track as Thompson paced them, looking for his cha nce to pass. An opportunity pr esen ted itse lf on lap four wh en Woolsey ran int o trou ble in the wood s, and Thompson moved up behin d Elliott . Elliott held the lead of the Pro class as he tried to reel in Reed , without success. Thom pson a nd Wool sey co ntin ued th eir battle until the whi te-flag lap, wh en Woolsey on ce agai n ran into trouble, drop pin g down to seventh place . In mota two, Reed repeated his dominance over bot h Pro an d Int ermed ia te classes, taking th e o ve ra ll w in in t h e Int e r m ed iat e cla ss . Woolsey got his act togeth er and ran a grea t bard to-bar race aga ins t Elliott as the two Pros duele th rou gh out th e firs t fo ur la p s . By lap, five, Woo lsey he ld a slight edge o ve r Ell io tt tha t increased when Elliott had his turn with trou ble in the woods. The ov erall w in went to Elliott with 1-2 motes , which beat Woolsey's 4-1 tally. Third overall went to Thompson with 2~3 finishes, followed by North Texa s Yamaha's Chris Torrance (5-4). Pla no Hond a' s Brian PiccereIli rounded out the top five, finishing 3-6. The Minibi ke Open has alwa ys been th e event in which to check out future big-b ike ra cing stars. The riders to watch in moto one were Brand on Fulton and Jon athan Kerr. Fu lton kicked his KX int o gear and stole the ho leshot, but fellow Kawasaki jockey Kerr wa s not goin g to let Fulton get away. Kerr caught Fulton in the whoo ps on lap on e and slip ped around him for th e lea d ju st before the fin ish lin e. The du o pushed 'ahead of the pack as the intensi ty heated up in th eir battle for the win . Kerr kept his small edge, crossing the fini sh line w ith less than a bike len gth to spare . Cross ing th e line in th ird after a ha rd-fough t run wa s La nce Hollist er . who weaved his way down the tou gh path left by Ryan Ha ring a nd Cody Dre we k, who finished four th and fifth, respectively, in this 13ride r even t.
