"Today, everything felt gTeat," said Vienot, "'I was trying to extend my lead each lap in case I did a mistake or something. The track was in great condition. That sand switchback area got rough. but the track was tacky and had good traction." Oettel roosts Red Bud MX By larry Witmer BUCHANAN, MI, APR. 1 David Dettel won both 250cc Expert motos at the Red Bud Spring Ring event. asty weather conditions of ra.in, high winds and cold temperatures greeted the more than 500 riders who turned out to compete. The 2S0cc Expert field ripped off the line with Joson McDonald showing off the power of his Suzuki. Mike Aldrich was second, with Jay Wagner in third. Dave Dellel and Brad Jerominski rounded the first comer in fourth and fifth. Wagner got Aldrich on the second lap to take the lead when Aldrich took the wide line in the Apple Orchard switchbacks. Wagner blocked the line of Aldrich to complete his move to second. At the completion of the second lap, McDonald had a smaJi advantage over Wagner, with Aldrich being challenged by Oettel for third. Things went bad for Wagner as his Yamaha's front end stuck in some mud coming up the Monza Wall, pitching Wagner over the bars. "It happened so quick," said Wagner. "I tried a different line and it didn't work. I'll be back in the next mota," McDonald continued to hold the point, but Aldrich and Oettel were knocking hard. Nate Eslinger moved into the fourth spot, with Kawasaki jockey Matt Maximoff moving into fifth, shoving Jerominski back out of the top five. Soon Dettel had had enough of McDonald and Aldrich. First he passed Aldrich; then Dettel kept his momentum up and passed McDonald just after passing laRocco's Leap. At the checkers, it was Dettel with a four-second advantage over McDonald and Aldrich. Eslinger held off Maximoff for fourth. The second-moto holeshot went to McDonald again, with Aldrich second, Dettel third, John Kidd fourth and Maximoff fifth. Oettel made his move to the front on the opening lap. pa ing Aldrich over a jump. Dellel then set his sights on McDonald, dosing in on the hoi hot artist by the completion of the first lap.
