Walker whips it out at Rolling Hills Motocross By Jay Hauser REllJ5VrLLE, NC, MAR. 28 Yamaha-mounted Bryan Walker came to round six of the U.S. Eastern Spring Motocross Series and whipped out four great rides to capture the 80ee (12-13) class and Supermini overall wins. The series has seen terrible weather the last two racing weekends, so riders and promoters alike were all smiles about the perfect conditions at Rolling Hills Motorsports Park. . Facing his longtime rival Stephen Martin, Walker brasted to the lead in the opening moto of the 80ee (12-13) class, sandwiching KX rider Wes Gauldin between himseU and Martin. Walker went on to pull a small lead while Martin took a litlle time to disprace Gauldin, but once past, Martin started to cut into Walker's lead. The two riders were joined at lI,e hip by the halfway point and the battle went down to the checkered flag. Walker just edged out Martin. Gauldin never fell far off the leaders' pace, finishing third, while 1998 District J3 champ Sam Fitzwater fought of.( Randy Newkirk for fourth. A charged-up Martin come out swinging as he nailed the holeshot and led the first three raps of the second mote. It looked. like there was no stopping Martin, but Walker had other prans. Walker steadily chipped away at Martin until he made one of his many pass attempts, although it did not stick. Martin fought back, only to have Walker come up alongside him heading into a tight left-hander. The two .riders came together pretty hard, and Martin hit the ground. As a result, Walker won the mota rather easily, giving him the overall as well. Martin got up and was still able to retain the runner~up spot in the moto and the overall. Newkirk stepped it up a little in moto two to score a third, but it was not enough to get him on the podium. Gauldin stood on the third step via his 3-4 tally. Dean Day rounded out the top five, behind Newkirk, after Fitzwater was a DNS. One of the biggest classes of the day also provided some of the best racing as a 33-rider field of Over 25 C and D riders went at it, mixing up the results along the way. In the end, Durham, North Carolina Kawasaki rider Eric Thomas was the most consistent of the bunch, recording a pair of second-place rides that landed him the overall. The first moto was won by Robert Flynt in convincing fashion, but a second-moto DNF put him out of the picture and opened up the door for Steven Simpson. Simpson's mota win in race two, coupled with a fifth, netted him second overall, while Brad Porter- field put his Suzuki on the podium with a score of 3-5. John Morrissey and Mike EhrenzeUer rounded out the top five. Results 50 (4-6): 1. Ryan Zimmer (Cob);.2. Jamie Pilkington (KTM); 3. Donald Tilley (Cob); 4. Alex Wilkins (KTM); 5.
