Baggett bags one
in Las Vegas
By Dick Goodwin
LAS VEGAS, NY, MAR. 13
The Las Vegas Motocross Club held its final
tuneup race prior to the upcoming World Mini
Grand Prix. All of the small-bike classes, from
80cc machines on down to SOcc, were stacked
with talent, as racers from several states converged on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to try
to dial in the long track and get ready for the
coming event.
In the Pee Wee Modified Open race, contested over the full-length course, Grand Terrace
California's Blake Baggett came up to the gate
amped up and ready to race. Motorcyde Central-sponsored local hot rod Ronnie Goodwin
blasted off the line to lead race one, just ahead of
Perris, California's Cody Tithof and Baggett.
Tithof outdueled the leader in the third corner to
take the point as the top Unee stretched a lead
from the rest of the pack. Baggett stayed close in
third, waiting for the right time to make his
move. It came in the middle of the first lap, and
he snaked past two riders at once to grab the
lead.
Baggett cranked it up even higher and started to pull away from the fierce battle for second
that was now raging behind him between Cody
Tithof and Ronnie Goodwin. Baggett kept
tretching his lead and made it look easy as he
romped h me with the first-moto win. Second
place went right to the wire, with Tithor just
edging out Ronnie Goodwin for the honors.
Goodwin pulled another holeshot to start
race two, leading Cody Tithof and the rest of the
gate around the course. Baggett started out midp"ck but was moving up fast. At the finish-line
jump, it was Goodwin, Tithof and Baggett nose
to tail and already separated from the rest of the
field.
Positions were reversed on the second flyby, as Baggett h.d man.ged to pass twice for the
lead and Tithof was holding down second over
Goodwin. Baggett pulled away in the latter
stages once again to grab another win and eam
the overall Pee Wee Modified Open (7-8) crown.
Cody TithoPs two seconds left him second overall, ahead of Ronnie Goodwin and North Ogden,
Utah's Hayden Roberts.
