accomplishments and constructive comments. Bud Meyers Phelan, CA The Butler lifted it In regards to your interview with Dan Butler (Ii; ue #7, February 24), the 137pound racer who can bencll-press 280 pounds, I hope his spotter is wearing his weight belt. Kit Farley Park City, UT AMA and Edmondson It ounds like the AMA hired and contracted a ta len ted promoter who did what the AMA couldn't do. Roger Edmondson got the programs working well· and they pushed him out. Then they blackballed his new superbike series and this bankrupted his family. It really appears that the AMA is out of line. Michael Shinners (AMA Life Member) Buffalo, NY God and racing Kenny Roberts celebrates winning the Daytona 200 in.1983. Second-place finisher Eddie Lawson is on Roberts' left. Throwing the first stone When a complainant writes a somewhat vicious article about a person or persons to Cycle News, they should provide the readers with their qualification of accompli hments so the readers can acknowledge their assumed authority of the subject matter on which they are speaking. Without these above-men· tioned accomplishments, we can assume that Mr. Derryberry is nothing more than a person who hasn't so much as ridden a motorcycle or participated in a race. To say it makes him sick to hear what Kenny Roberts' or his son's comments are about - well, maybe he needs to do a little research to see if they have any qualifications to back up their comments. How about World Champion road racer, inductee to the Dirt Track Hall of Fame in Springfield, Illinois, a recipient of the AMA's lifetime achievement award, etc. • These accomplishments are not given unless you earn them and have given up some self-sacrifice to attain them. As for Mr. Derryberry's criticism of the Roberts family, I suggest he dqes not sit out so far on the tree limb of stupidity before he starts sawing up someone else's God or a person's religious beliefs have no effect or place in the sport of motorcycle ·racing. While I agree that Tom Kipp is a top-notch athlete whose talent I wish I had, I don't agree that Eraldo Ferracci should keep him around because he's a good role model or because he's a Christian. As a professional, Kipp is expected to produce results. No results, no job. Let's pretend you're a business owner and you have an employee who is consistent but doesn't give you the results that put your company above your competitors do you keep him because he's nice or a Christian? Or do you make a change that produces results? As a businessmall (like Mr. Ferracci), you make a change that helps the team. Good luck to Mr. Kipp in his future 'plans and the same to Mr. Ferracci. As for Mr. Fussner ("Voice ," Issue #6, February 16), you can take your foot out of your mouth now. RodP~rez Greenfield, MA Zitterkopf gets shorted Brent Avis' 'article in the February 24 issue of Cycle News (Issue #7 page 34) was not only incorrect about Ty Davis Greg Zitterkopf and Donnie Book, but also in regard to Destry Abbott and Greg Zitterkopf. Was Brent Avis really at this race? Zitterkopf was the rider who overaIled the Unclassified race (not Abbott, as reported). Zitterkopf was also the rider who swapped back and forth with Ty Davis for the lead numerous times in the Pro race. It's hard to believe that anyone who wa actually at the race would have reported that Ty took the win "hands down." It was truly a great race. Zitterkopf only had trouble on the last lap and Larry RoeseIer passed him within a few miles of the finish. No interviews, no race results. Where did Brent get his information?
