III [ think iris crazy that PACE won't let Cycle News cover the Supercross events On its Virtual Grandstand. The race isn't on TV (usually for weeks) after the event, so I don't see how it could affect them. We, as fans, Ii ve to read the results as they come in. In fact, last year, I had no less than eight people at my house every Saturday night to read the results. This is 1999, and we were really looking forward to merely "reading" results instead of watching it live. [ think with the limited coverage you provide online (which is very appreciated), no one (PACE) should give a second thought to it - they are only hurting fans and causing hard feelings towards tha t organization. Just like most other sports, when big money gets involved, the sport is forgotten. I do not, however, begrudge the riders, who deserve big $$ for what they do. . As a final note, how can they stop someone from posting things as they happen via a cell phone calling into someone at a computer? Ernie Wall ern.iewa1I@aol.com Someone please get me an e-mail address for PACE. I'm so frustrated. For the past two years, my Saturday latenight routine was to get comfortable in front of the computer and keep up with the supercross coverage On Virtual Grandstand. Imagine my dismay when I see this BS going On and that there would be nO Virtual Grandstand coverage tonight. Then it all starts to fit together when I see the PACE web si.te and their "live coverage." Total tripe. I'm totally bummed. Here it is, late at night, and I have no idea how the races went. The "live" coverage broadca t didn't work on my computer and I want PACE to know about it (and I'm computer literate, so they can't say that I dOn't know what I'm doing). I'm totally peeved. [ see that Yamaha is a sponsor of their site. lawn three Yamahas and I'm not happy with this situation. Either PACE or Cycle News is getting greedy over all of this, and my first guess is that it's not Cycle News. I mean, how much can a reporter hurt their pocketbook by reporting the race in print over the Internet? I could not find an e-mail address for PACE, so if you know of one, let me know. This reeks. D. Taylor Nashville, TN Theresa Milburn, Credit Cycle New~ wasn'l told thai we couldn't cover the supereross events live Oil-line - we simply couldn'l come to tenns with PACE Otl all agreemenl that would allow us to do so. PACE is doing its OWII version of race coverage via a live audio feed on its web site, located at www.pacesupercross.com. Covering the evenl vin a cell phD/Ie simply isn'l a viable optioll. As always, we will still have the mosl complete coverage of the series 011 a weekly basis in Cycle ews... Edilor Circulation Alma Anguiano, Circulatioll Mallager Why no SX? Is there any way it will return this season? if PACE is behind this, they are pi sing off a lot of fan. What a brilliant idea try to promote supercross but make it Jess accessible to the fans. Maybe they think if fans can get the Grandstand, they won't go to the race. Wha tever the reason, this does not help bring more fans to our sport. [ know a lot of people who are going to be turned off by this. This really sucks and it's counterproductive. Can this be resolved? The horror I just read with horror a press report in Cycle News (Issue #1, January 13) that Roger Edmondson has gotten a jury ver- dict against the AMA that might total $3.5 million. If ultimately upheld, this would amount to annual dues of over 120,000 AMA members being paid to Mr. Edmondson - before taking into acco1.J1lt the attorney fee and interest on that vast judgement that accrues between now and the time the final appeal is decided. This is not why I pay AMA dues. If the jury has decided that the AMA has engaged. in conduct that supports such a verdict, I deplore the AMA for its recklessness. Who will be held accountable for this travesty? I urge the AMA to provide its members with a full explanation. Jeff Tour jtour@thf.com Why no SX? IV Please tell me what other action to take to get upercross On Virtual Grandstand. [ rarely follow the race in real time, but 1 always read it the following morning to find out exactly what happened. The press release that PACE puts on their site falls short of providing any detail and obviously isn't directed at en thusiasts. PACE is doing a great job promoting our sport and they deserve a lot of credit. I just hope they don't get too stuck up and forget about the hard-core fans who were around when supercross was nothing more than a novelty race at the L.A. Coliseum and Cycle News was the primary means of information - at 50 cents an issue!
