ASHEVILLE, NC, NOV. 27-28 ike Katin began his Thanks givi ng ra cin g weekend w ith a -·"'''· fi rs t- tu rn pileup, but he fin ish ed with tw o wi ns and a th ird-p lace finis h to pocket over $1300 in the Victory Sports' Pro payoff. Also on the gas were Jim Neese, w ho scored a win in Saturday' s ·2S0cc A ma in even t, and Robbie Hor ton , who too k Friday's 12Scc A race. Blasting int o the tight first turn of the Western No rth Carolina AG Cente r circuit in Friday n ight ' s 12Scc A mai n, Katin found himself the victim of a pileup. While H orton, Cha rlie Du n aw ay, Ne ese, and Brad Stru nk duked it out for th e lead , Kati n re moun ted a nd rode hard to make u p time. The 12-lap sprint through the pack p roved to be a cha llenge for Katin, who worked his way up to si xth pl ace by mot o' s end . Katin's next moto was mu ch more successful. Dunaway grabbed th e 2S0cc A holeshot an d led for two laps before ge tting sw a rmed by Ka tin, Neese, Todd Bennick a nd Horton. Dunaway's runner-up finish in the 12Scc A eve nt was good practice, as h e held o n to th ird beh ind Katin and Neese. Las t ye a r , Duna w a y go t knock ed cold fro m a crash in th e whoops. Th e followi ng night he go t back on his bike a nd won . This year, despite being intimid a ted by the sa me ve nue that left him unconsciou s, Dunaway prod uced co nsisten t top-three finishes. Satu rday's 12Scc A ma in even t was all Karin from sta rt to finish . Du naway, wh o finished in seco nd, shadowed him th e whole way . Behind Dunaway battled Neese, Horton, Strunk, and up-andcomer Paul Justus. Ju st us gated fo urth behind Neese a nd hel d his gro und well w hile under pressure from Horton and Stru nk. Eventu ally Jus tus ga ve way to Horton an d Stru n k, but the y ou ngs te r certa in ly mad e both veterans earn the pass. This has been good for him , and he mig ht sta rt to settle into it now." Dunaway again took the early lead on Saturday's 250cc A start , wit h Neese, Katin, and Ho rton on his rear fender. Late in the race, lapped riders made the difference, s lowing Dunaway just enough to ena ble Neese to slip past and scamper off wit h the win.
