In your se gment on Grand ational
Numberana '99, you refer to the previous owners of plate number th ree as
Ricky Graham and Gene Rome ro .
Maybe for the benefit of the old er fans
in yo ur audience, you could mention
that the nu mber three was also owned
by Al Gunter, w ho can be remember ed

Hats off to Goat Breker and the rest of
the GFI rac e for putting o n a fantastic
race - the 1998 Elsinore Grand Prix. I had
a bla st. From the guys tending to th e
impound area to the course personnel, it
was a first-class weekend. It was terrifi c

guys ride those museum pieces so fast?
, I'd also like to thank GFI for arranging for rain on Sunday - it made me feel

Can you help me explain how a person
who d oes not race in a Grand ational
Champion ship Dirt Track event all year
ca n retain his National number for an
extra yea r?
I noticed that Recil Ha rt retained his
number for another year, so I wrote to
Merrill Vanderslice, the di recto r of competition, and asked him how this cou ld
be done if the racer d idn't compete during the yea r. His re ply was that it was
cus to ma ry for the AMA to let an injured
rid e r re ta in h is numbe r fo r a n ex tra
year. If this is the case, what happens to
the one racer who wen t out and race d
these races to gain a Na tional nu mber?
Doc'S this seem fair to you? I think not.
Does the AMA make the ru les as
they go? I'm at a loss here. Maybe someone ou t there can answer my question.
What's the deal ?
