Whi le Martin continu e-d to pu ll aw ay, the ba t..
tie for second raged on. Michalis held a slim margin over Leone as they re-entered the motocross
track. Leon e emerged in second as the tw o riders
entere d the drag s tr ip , dropping Michal is to
third . Michalis was able to get back around Leone
in the can yon . Th e battl e between Michalis an d
Leo ne a llowe d Kawa saki-mounted Andrew
Gaiger to close the gap on the twu riders.

establis hed in second, Leone was feeling h c~1VY
pressure fro m Ga iger, who ho und ed Leone as
the two ca me out of the can yon . Gaiger mad e his
move at the top of the Ca rlsbad Freeway, displa cin g Leone to fo ur th, with G reg Card ena s
dosing in fifth.
\Vith the race neari ng its end, Martin , Michalis
and Gaig er controlled the top three spo ts, respec tively. Le ne continued to batt le with Ca rdenas,

Mike Grimes. Cardenas made the p.1ss for fourth
in the ca nyon . Kawasaki -mo unted Crimes followed, quickly d roppin g Leone to sixth.
