Th e trail offere d a wide vari ety of rid ing cond itions, fro m win d ing it o ut in top gear o n the fast fire roads to twisting han dl ebar s in and ou t of the tigh t woods sections. The cloudy sky and mild autu mn tempera tures were a w eIcom e relief to the riders who ha d en d ured the pre viou s mo nths of hot-wea the r races. Chad Par ker, a 200cc A rider, summed it u p best by s.'r.ng. "This was the best race of the season so far. Dann y Morrison's Kawasaki piled in to the trail en tra nc e off of the start. Robby Deal and Morrison were sc ra tc h ing p las tics co m ing thro ug h the sco rin g bar rels in th e fi rst lap. Fou rth off the s ta r t, Ma rk l V-s p o n s o re d Kawasaki rid er Tummy Hand y passed Stephen Edmondson to take the third position, with in sight of Deal a nd Morriso n . Deal was keeping Morrison at his back until he was boxed in by a lap ped rider. Morrison used this opportunity to make the winning pa ss a nd took th e ov erall win at the finish. Deal rolled past the barrels in second and Hand y kept up the pa ce to come in third. The start consisted of a 9O-degree tum into a light 6-foo l wood s trail - the pe rfect ingr ed ients for a bottlen eck. In the 200cc A clas s, Andrew William slid by the pileu p in the woods. Dea n In gr am unt a n g led his Kawa saki t o c hase Williams. Abo ut a q uarter- m ile into the woods, Williams fell, and Ingra m worked by him, taking over the lead . Last into th e woods, Parker worked hi s way throu gh the pa ck to pursu e Williams. Williams threw a pa ir of goggles to the side of the tra il and missed an inside line on a berm , o pe nin g the door for Par ker to pass and go a fte r In g ra m , In g ram 's le ad re ma ined untou cha bl e up to th e che cke rs, wi t h Parker coming in second . Williams recouped and came in third . Last into the wood s off the start, Deal took advantage of the bot tlen eck pileup in the woods to pass the majority of the 2S0cc A class and cha se wesley Mo ran a nd Glen Holcomb. Dea l ro lled by Mora n, and then his Honda tangled with so me tr ees in a tight section, a nd wh en Ho lcom b went down on a set of logs at the bottom of a downhill, Deal secured a two-minute lead and the 2S0cc A w in . With Deal o ut of sight. Moran and Hol comb battled for sero~d . Holcomb held on to sec ond, with Moran mere seconds behind him . until a lapped rider fell in front of him . Seeing the traffic jam ahead of him. Moran took an o ut side line to get by Hol comb and look control of second pla ce up to the finis h. Ho lcomb latched on to Moran's back fender to take third a t the barrels. The Vet B cl a ss w a s th e scen e o f so me intense competition, At the end of Ihe firs t lap, Yamaha rider Craig Randl e came into the scoring barrels with Suz uki rid er Gary Woods an d Kawasaki rid er Mike Bakken right on his back fender, During the sec ond L1p, Bakk en made hi... mov e pa st Randle to take the lead and the class win. Randle fini sh ed second a nd Wood s finished third. In the Wome n ' s cl a s s , Jes sica Mo rri s on pu shed her Kawasaki int o the wood s a hea d of Christine Bl.. ke a nd Hea th er G ree r. G ree r took a the lead w hen Morri son and Blake ~ p u n o ut on a loose , silt-lad en uphill. Morrison lat ched on to Greer' s rear fend er until 'Gree r plowed int o a tree, a llo wing Morrison to make the winning pass. A battle for seco nd place began as Blak e passed Greer at the pits.
