One rider w ho came in a nd showed the local bo ys a tri ck or tw o was Mar yland 's Tom Welch. Ridi ng a Wiseco / Boysen /MSR-backed pair of Suzuki>. Welch reco rded a perfect sweep of the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes. Welch's wi ns w ou ld not, however, come eas ily, as so me bad starts an d a few mi..takcs wo uld force him to work his way u p th ro ug h a to ug h field. But as moto two of the 12Sec Pro contest go t under way, Turlin gt on w as p i t~h ed off the trac k in the first tu r n, cart w hee ling off in to an em bankme nt and out of the hu nt for the overall win. Stepping up to fill in was Hillsville, Virgi nia's Shane Templeton and Petal. Missouri 's Chr is C ra ft. Th en Templeto n ste pped u p the pace an d pushed his wa y past C raft to take seco nd . Templeton 's SC'Cond in mo to two cou pled with his third fro m mot o on e wo u ld g ive him th e ru n ner~up spo t to WeIch overall. C raft's day was still not finished, as Tim Christiansen made his lo ng trip from Massacbc setts worthwhile - he wou ld also d isplace Cra one more pl ace, capturing third in the mote Christiansen's third was what he needed to ju slip into the top five overall. Fourth on the da went to Wayn e, Michigan , Suzu ki rider Richar Watson, w hose 5--5 moto finishes would put hi in fourth overa ll on the day. . Welch would aga in have to deal with basica ll the sa me grou p of rid ers in the 250cc Pro clas and he sco red the w in; but th is time aroun Turlingt on nailed d own tw o solid runner-up ride .to stand on the second step of the pod ium .
