SEPT. 20 Just back from serving as a mindcr for the U.s . team at the Tria l des Nations, Jared Ma lmquist was able to put togeth er what he learned to w in the Expert class on his Beta with only 4S points. Second pla ce wen t to IS- ye ar-old Geor ge Smith IV, with 62 points. John Robertson was II points ahead of Smith after the th ird loop , but Robertson had a flat on the first loop and wa sn 't able to start the fourth loop in time. Thc Experts had to rid e four loops, whil e all the others rode three - each of which was abou t seven miles lo ng. Oli Thordarson mastered th e Ma s ters clas s with 23 points, riding a new Scor po . Mean while, Rick Jenkins and his Gas Ga s dabbed in to seco nd pla ce with 31 poin ts. The Advanced A class had a tie afte r the seco nd loop be tween Kevin Geyer and Barret Deck. both of w ho m were rid ing Gas Gas mo to rcycl es. Geyer, however, got hot a nd took the win. Both Geyer a nd Deck were competing for the first tim e in the Ad va nced A class. Advanced B a lso had a tie a fter the third loop. which was broken by Tom Mcbride. who rode his Mont esa to five clea ns (to Cha rlie Rowlett's one clean ). John Bourd eau used a smoo th thro ttle on his Yamaha to win the Intermed iate A class.
