A change from previous races this year was the ad dition of the "G rav ity Cavity" va lley section. At the sta rt of the firs t 16-24 C moto, it was no ne other than Johnso n w ho nail ed th e st art on his YZ 250. Jar ed And erson and the rest of th e 23 rid e rs foll o w ed . In th e 16-24 A class, Mik e Lu oma was the guy to beat in th e Fou r- m a n race. Lu oma led th e firs t mot o from start to finish as he wa lke d away fro m the field . Ryan Broughton took second, L amey Gr osser thi rd a nd Ph il Ba teman fou rth . Mo to two, how ever, saw Luoma sta rt a t the back a nd he had to wo r k his way u p . Broughton grabbed the ea rly lead , followed by Crosser o n a Ace rbis / Hitching Post YZ125 . At the end of two laps in the five-la p race, th ere was an in t ens e battle fo r t h e le a d as Broughton was doing all he could to ho ld back the ha rd cha rges of both Grosser and Luom a . O n th e th ird lap, Luoma had had en ou gh an d passe d both Grosser a nd Brough ton for th e lea d a nd the ove ra ll w in .
