Expert class proved to be high ly con tested and
filled with many gr ea t ba ttles.

In the fir s t moto, Po corobba gra bbe d the
holesho t. followed by Don Schmidt, Ken Shee rer
a nd Pa ul Carpenter . Carpen te r imm ediat e ly
ma de his bid for thir d an d qu ickly passed Shee rer . Desperately tr ying to ge t arou nd the side of
Sch m id t, Carpe nt er flew h igh on th e big triple
wh ile the res t of the class did the doubl e. Th is
was a n o- go, bu t in the next co rne r Sch mid t
washed o ut , a n d Ca rpen te r mad e th e p a ss .
Mean while, Pocorobb a had taken this opportun ity to open up a lead and was about five seconds
in fron t of th e rest o f the pack . As Ca rpe nte r
wo rked o n dosing th is gap. Shee rer stalled his
bike an d fell off the pace back to sixth . He was
pa sse by Rand y Barke r. Greg Mee er and Don
d
d
Schmi d t. Schmidt, who was sta r ting to make his
way ba ck thro ug h the p a ck, soon pick ed off
Barker and Meed er and fou nd him self all alone
in third. By th is time, Carpenter ha d effe tively
c
dosed the gap on Pocoro bba an d was challenging for th e lead . He made the pass and p roceed ed to open up a to- seco nd lead . In the meantime,
Casey Hig gins wa s comi ng to life, an d he had
wo rked his wa y pas t Shee rer in to sixth . On the
big triple - he and Ca rpenter were the onl y riders
to'attempt the jump - he dosed the gap on Meeder' (w ho was then in fifth) a nd mad e the pa ss on
th e insid e line of the next comer. On the last lap,
Hi ggin s wen t for big ai r on th e sec ond se t of
triples and made the pass over Barker, w ho had
doubled the jump. Ca rpe nter wo n, followed by
Pocorobba, Schmid t, Higgins and Bar ker.
In th e se cond moto, Pocor ob ba once again
got the holeshot . followed by Schmid t and Bart
Lucas. Carpenter went down in the first corner
a nd fo u nd himself ha vi ng to play ca tch-up .
Po corobba wa s un tou chable a nd re main ed in
the lead , un chall enged for the rest of the race.
Schm id t also distanced himself from th e rest
of the pack, w h ich left th e real action to take
place m idpa ck. Lucas was still in third , follow ed
by Sco tt Ghid iu , H iggin s and Car pe nte r, w ho
had immed iately started mo ving up in the pack.
Ca r pe nte r m ad e q ui ck wo r k o f H iggins a nd
Ghid iu a nd had sta rted to challenge Lucas for
third . He was just abo ut to make the pa ss w hen
he was d own aga in, a nd he fell back to abou t
ninth . As Carpe nter tried to get back up to speed.
Lucas fell back to fifth , w hil e H iggins passed
Ghidiu to ta ke ov er third . As they near ed the
halfway po in t with Pocor obb a still comma nd ing
the lead an d Schmid t still in second, Ca rpe nter
had mana ged to work his wa y up yet aga in and
wa s in fourth, pres suri ng Higgins. Ghid iu bega n
to fad e midmo to, and Lucas was up into fifth.
Carpenter go t around Higgins , and he began to
close th e ei ght-seco nd lead Schmi d t had over
him in second . By the last lap, he had it do wn to
two second s. He closed the gap on the big tripl e,
and even more on the set of trip les that followed.
He mad e the pas s on the next com er. He tried to
open it up but ended u p sta lling the bike in a cor ner. He man aged to get the bike going in time to
(barely) maint ain second, and he too k the check ers follow ing Pocoro bb a, w ho wo n th e race .
Schmid t too k third , and Higgins took fourth.
. In the 16-24 Combined class, Ca sey Higgin s
won both mot es, going start to finish. Matt Pat terson we nt 2-2 for second ov erall, w hile Jam ie
Robin son end ed up w ith third ov eral l.
