Ride rs the n cruised through approximately 40 miles of mixed trail and roads until the gas ' stop at the completion of the first loop. Anderson had the bes t score at the halfway ma rk, with w beels ports KTM rider Brad Sells close behind him in second place . After a hefty reset, the field continued on for loop twcca trail consisting of 38.5 miles. This loop incl uded the famous hill, which brought grief to many riders, including several who houred w hile try ing in vain to conquer it. Wh en the ga te sla mm ed to the dirt for th e first-moto start, it was U,e YZI25 of Jeff Verseput who got the jump on Resnick, Jonat han Gilliam and Sh aun Trab er t. Trabert was o n the move, making his way into the lead by la p tw o and stayin g there right up until the finish . Rl.Snick ' w ould ge t around Vcrsc pu t before the halfway point to finis h in seco nd pla ce, ahea d of Andrew Co rd~, Ryan Evan s and Versc put. Jason Dickinson, Resnick and Ben Stuelke ran in the lead pack w hen the second mot o got un der way, wi th Stue lke eventually taking charge and ru n n ing out fro nt. Eva ns an d Co rey Murphy came from ou t of the pack to run third and fourth, respectively, by lap two . Murphy passed Evans and Resnick for second, and then was handed the lead when Stuelke dropped out of the race. The last few laps belonged to Murphy, wh o end ed up taking the se cond-mote w in. Af ter being pushed all the wa y back to fifth at one point, Resnick foug ht his wa y back to finish secon d - an d that was good enough to clai m th e overa ll honors.
