With the first hall of the program comin g to a close, th e sou nd of vintage b ikes co uld be hea rd w arming up for the one-mote format to be ru n during intermission. Micha el Harasmi sz grabbed the holesh ot on his Ma ico 450, wit h Paul Ga rd ner o n a VZ250 and Dave Ca rma n on a YZI25 close be hind . Hara smisz and Gard ner qu ickly pulled away from the pa ck as they beg an an in tense battle for the lead . On the seco nd lap, Gardner dived und er Harasmisz and took over the lead at the bottom of the big hill. Neese's o nly real co mpetition ca me in th e 125cc class, mostly in the form of Chuck Shirley. Shirley pu t his Wiseco /Raee-Tech-backed YZI25 out in front of Neese and co m pa ny in bot h 125cc A mo te s, but he ju s t co u ld no t m a intai n t he p o in t p o sition for long . Neese w ould allow Shirley no more tha n a few laps before he would ma ke his move, grab a good lead , and se t it o n cruise co ntrol. Local speedste r Brandon Turlingt on foug ht his way through the field in both motes to captu re a pair of third s, just edgiog out Mark Wagner and C hris Wagn er . In 250cc action, Neese battled his bike early in mota one, as the big-bore d evelo ped a miss. O nce Neese go t thi ngs blown ou t, he go t do wn to bus iness and reeled in . the field, w hich w as bei ng le by Nick McAllister . Chad Banta again topped the highl y compe titive 250cc Junior class by way of his 1-2 moto scores, w hile Bria n Jaegers , Ban ta 's nemesis, s uffered a firs t-mo ta cras h but ca me ba ck to win the fina l mo ta at round fOUT of the Silver Sta te vs , Gold en Sta te MJ( Series. In race one, Ieeg ers took the lead aboa rd his YZ250; second w as Banta , w ho was ri d ing his Go lde o State Cycle-tun ed YZ400F. During the firs t lap, Jaeger s' fro nt end slid o u t in a tigh t right-h and co rner an d he w ent dow n . Ba nta then inheri ted the lead . Jaege rs was u p qui ckly but, because of traffic, he had to watch the .entire pack go by before res ta rting. Jaeger s then mad e the d ecision to wai t for Banta to circle the tra ck so he cou ld rid e w it h the lead ers d espite bei ng o ne la p d own. Th at d ecision wo uld cost him later. "I guess I sho uld ha ve tried to race back u p for at least seco nd, but ·1 had trouble ge tting my bik e back up (after the cras h)," Jaegers sa id . "I just rod e around behind him g.ln; 2.
