Demuth, Palmer hotat GNC Good TIme Motocross By Uz Surber IoIOSIER VALlEY, TX.)tiLy \ 1-12 Tbe 21st annual GN C Good Time National experienced the hottes t temperatures ever encountered for this event, with the mercury rising over \00 on Saturday and even reaching 110 on Sunday . Igloos filled with iced water were set up in tfle staging area and at the starting line to help keep the riders cool. And while the temperature was hot, the racing was even hotter, with Josh Dem uth taki ng the 25Qcc Expert win and Cliff Palmer top ping the 12SccExperts . The 250cc Expert class s.:J W Travis Hodges hold ing the lead for the first three laps. Michael Peacock stayed close to Hodges for the first two laps, but by the thinJ lap Josh Demuth and Keith Johnson had taken over second and thi rd . It wasn 't lo ng before Demuth had cla imed the lead, and he held it to the checkered lIag. johnson followed right behind him to claim second-. Hodges se ttled for third, and Cli ff Palmer worked his way up to four th after running as low as seventh. Brad Woolsey claimed the early lead in moto two and do mina ted the first three laps. Hodges kept u p wit h Woo lsey, but b y lap four Ray Mitchell and Demuth had p ut themselves in the second and th ird places, respec tively. By the fifth lap Demuth had let it be known that he was going for the gold , and he took the lead , which he wo uld hold to the end. Woolsey he ld on to second place through the white lIag. but when the checkered flag waved, it was Keith johnson in second. woolsey settled for th inJ and Palmer, who had worked his way through the pack from 10th place on lap I , finished fou rth. Demuth took the ov er. II, with John son placing second and Woolsey third. Palmer was fourth ove rall. The 12Scc Expert action slarted with Suzuki mo unted Jacob Martin cla imin g the lead and hol di ng it for the first five laps. Palmer gave chase and overtook Martin on the white-flag lap. Michael Peacock was hold ing a s tead y third ..,til lap four , when Woolsey, wo rking his way hrough the pack, overtook h im . When the checkered flag Flew, it was Palmer, Demuth, Martin and Woo lsey. Johnson wo rked ha rd , coming from dead last at the end of the first to lake fifth place. Moto two found joh nso n out fron t for the first three laps, b ut second-placed Palmer took the lead aw ay on the fou rth lap and threw on the coals to pull away for the win. Demuth wai ted unti l the fifth lap to jump from third to sece n d , wh ich p u sh ed johnson dow n a spot. Woolsey, mean while, stayed a steady fou rth throughou t the mota.
