A contingent of speedway riders were on hand, the majority being Division Two riders from aU over the orthwest. Division One rider seth Church was the evening's dominant rider, winning the Division One Scratch and Handicap main events. While Church easily won the Scratch final, he did have to make up a lot 01 ground in his Handicap win, edging Mike Marr at the finish. Another double clas win tally came from .Honda rider Michael Rochester, winner of the 80cc A and SOcc DTX classes. His closest competition was lellow CR rider ick Sellers, the secona·place finisher in the A main. Results EX: 1. Jeff Hiatt (Yam); 2. Troy Rose (Rt);); J. Dick Wall (Yam). .PRo-SPT; 1. Jerry Hansen {Hon~ Scheel, Harry score at Albany SX By Clay light ALBANY, OR, MAY 10 Yamaha rider Mike Scheel and Honda rider Matt Springsteen spent four motos in a side-byside configuration at the Albany Motorsports Complex duTing CMC Summer Series Supercross action, resulting in Scheel's coming out on top 01 the shootout. While Scheel trailed Pro rider Dustin Lenaburg throughout all lour 01 the 125cc Pro/Intermediate and Belore The Hill Pro/Intermediate-dass motos, it was still a victory because, first, he was the top Intermediate, and second, he beat Springsteen both times out. Lenaburg was long gone in all of the motos, leaving Springsteen and Scheel to battle it out behind him. Ln the Before The Hill class, Springsteen got the nod in the first moto, followed by Scheel and Suzuki rider J.R. Vielle, who were all well behind Lenaburg. Moto two also featured a similar runaway performance by Lenaburg. However, this time out, Scheel got the best of Springsteen for runner·up laurels. Lenaburg also outrode the competition in the combined 125cc Pro/Intermediate class, although Scheel did put his Yamaha out in front of the field in the first moto until Lenaburg clawed his way past. Larry Jones, the only other Pro rider in the field, ran fourth behind Lenaburg, Scheel and Springsteen, but he encountered problems and dropped out 01 the action. The second moto was much the same, as' Lenaburg easily won it to finalize a two-class sweep, while Scheel's two-class tally came after beating the CR-mounted Springsteen to the finish. Springsteen, though, wouldn't leave the facmty empty-handed, as he won both 250cc Intermediate-class motos. Springsteen, lone Pro Jason Mathews, Vielie, John Meusling and Ted Harry battled for position on the opening lap, bat it became a Springsteen-Mathews clash that resulted in Springsteen netting the win. Mathews pressured Springsteen in the second moto after overcoming a poor start and overtook both Springsteen and Vielle late in the moto to finalize the order 01 finish. The Vet Pro class featured several fast riders, but it was Kawasaki rider Ted Harry who came out on top of the class with a 1-1 sweep despite incredible pressure from YZ400F-mounted Dave Fox and YZ250 pilot Joe Casey. Fox, who earlier won the Up The Hill Intermediate class, lell late in moto two while running amid the mayhem, which made things easier lor Harry and Casey as the two battled to the finish. Harry, a lonner 19SOs Pro, took the win by a slim margin over Casey. Suzuki rider Deanna Holbrook kept her Women's-c1ass winning treak alive with wireto-wire wins in both motos, beating KX-mounted' Lisa Carrison and dass newcomer Ava Casey. Results P/W (4-6): 1. Kenworthy's MX holds grass race at season opener By Rupert X, Pellett TROY, OH, MAY 3 Planting grass in the off-season at Kenworthy's Motocross Park allows the club to better maintai.n this top-notch facility, and, traditionally, the first motocross of the year allows racers the opportunity to tear up the greenery in roosts of grass and dirt. While recent rains had plagued the area prior to race day, the weather appeared to be great for action by mid· morning. While eve.ryone was able to get one moto out of the way, the sudden afternoon lightning and squalls canceled the second set of motos. Close to 300 riders still were on hand, even with the c.hance of rain in the forecast, and everyone seemed to enjoy the one-moto opportunity. In the A classes, Greg Rand continued his assault of local District 11 racing as the six-time ational amateur champ tore up both the 125 and 250cc motos on his F&S Suzuki. Jon Schmitz was equally unstoppable in the Over 25 and 30 classes, where he toppled the competition. On the little track, it was Patrick Massie doing the damage as he ran off with the Mini Junior and 65ccwins. Results so (4-6): 1. Ry.1ft Iver!! (Cob); 2. Kyle Burlile (Cob); 3, Devan Shadl! (KTM); 4. Pellett MCARTHUR, OH, APR. 26 Brothers Michael and Andy Willard took their winning ways to the American Motorsports-produced Spring MX event at McArthur and handily walked away with three class wins between them. With 300 riders and mild spring weather, this southern Ohio circuit was moist and wellprepared by promoter Tab Thompson and his crew. While older brother Andy was dominant in his SOcc (12-15) class races aboard his F&Ssponsored Suzuki, younger brother Michael took it to them in the 65 and SOcc (7-11) divisions. In the.6Scc races, Michael Lined up his factory KTM against the Kawasakis 01 his lellow competitors and was only briefly challenged by his buddy Zach Ames, also on a new KIM. The 80cc class ollered a little more challenge lor the feisty youth from ThonvilIe, as Kenton's Dillion Watkin was on the gas, along with Kawasaki-mounted ide CarroU. Reno's Denny Swartz continued his control 01 the Over 4O-class racers at McArthur, as the former National MX contender easily won on his Yamaha. Results P/W 50 (~): I. Ryan Kerr (Yam); 2.
